Chances are, most of you were there to watch <\/span>PGL Cluj-Napoca <\/b>and followed the two main storylines, those of the finalists. But as much as seeing<\/span> MOUZ<\/b> lift a trophy with <\/span>Ludvig \u201cBrollan\u201d Brolin<\/b> at the helm and <\/span>Lotan \u201cSpinx\u201d Giladi <\/b>as the shining star has made everyone discuss the new iteration of the German organization\u2019s CS division, there is another story <\/span>lying in wait<\/b>. The story of a wounded animal trying to heal, redeem itself, and merit another chance to be recognised as one of the most dangerous beasts in the world of competitive Counter-Strike. This is the story of \u201c<\/span>The Falcon<\/b>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Growing stages<\/strong><\/h2>\n

When talking about one of the most antagonised orgs in the professional scene, we must start from the very beginning in order to understand how tough the road has been so far. Entering Counter-Strike in 2021, the Saudi organisation did not necessarily \u201cmake waves.\u201d Announcing a lineup consisting of players like NRG\u2019s <\/span>br0<\/b>, Saudi Arabian players <\/span>Viking<\/b> & <\/span>varK<\/b>, and the duo of <\/span>maty<\/b> & <\/span>BLACKEAGLE<\/b>, a lot of people probably didn\u2019t even realise the team <\/span>existed<\/b>, and for those who did, the project looked like an <\/span>investment in the MENA region<\/b>\u2014a team you could occasionally catch at some closed qualifiers but nothing more than that. Well, all of that changed <\/span>pretty quickly<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In <\/span>February 2022<\/b>, \u201c<\/span>The Falcon<\/b>\u201d became one of the few flag bearers of French Counter-Strike, signing the ex-<\/span>LDLC<\/b> & <\/span>Akimbo lineup <\/b>which, at the time, featured players like <\/span>Maka<\/b>, <\/span>hAdji<\/b>, <\/span>Keoz<\/b>, <\/span>Kyojin <\/b>and <\/span>Python.<\/b> Over the following year, we saw a lot of names come and go\u2014from legends like <\/span>Kenny \u201ckennyS\u201d Schrub<\/b> & <\/span>Nathan \u201cNBK-\u201d Schmitt<\/b>, to players like <\/span>Alexandre \u201cbodyy\u201d Pienaro<\/b> and<\/span> K\u00e9vin \u201cmisutaaa\u201d Rabier<\/b>, and even some international additions like <\/span>lauNX<\/b>, <\/span>mhL<\/b> & <\/span>BOROS<\/b>. This Falcons team was going through the motions, trying its absolute best to keep progressing and, from a regional MENA team, become one of the <\/span>top dogs<\/b> in <\/span>Tier 2 <\/b>Counter-Strike.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"A<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, bar qualifying for the<\/span> BLAST Paris Major RMR <\/b>with its French lineup in<\/span> 2023<\/b>, the organization couldn\u2019t quite achieve the success it was after. They did not win a single online Tier 2 tournament except for the<\/span> ESL Challenger League S41<\/b>, which, at the time, did not even guarantee a direct spot into <\/span>ESL Pro League<\/b> but only a chance to fight for one in the <\/span>EPL S17 Conference<\/b>, where Falcons couldn\u2019t show up and were sent right back to <\/span>ECL<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s safe to say, the Falcons were not the standard for success, regardless of being an <\/span>entertaining<\/b> and fun team to watch<\/b>. But being the \u201coccasional dark horse\u201d at the foot of the peak of the \u201cTier 2 Mountain\u201d didn\u2019t seem satisfactory enough, and this is where things got serious\u2014or at least,<\/span> they were supposed to<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Big goals, small wings<\/strong><\/h2>\n

After struggling to find their identity as an organisation, Falcons finally made the decision to start their big revamp and \u201c<\/span>storm the fortress of Tier 1 Counter-Strike<\/b>\u201d with the addition of one of the <\/span>most legendary coaches<\/b> in the history of the game <\/b>and <\/span>five-time Major winner<\/b> \u2013 <\/span>Danny \u201czonic\u201d S\u00f8rensen<\/b>, who was tasked with building the next \u201c<\/span>behemoth<\/b>\u201d in<\/span> Tier 1 <\/b>CS.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the <\/span>16<\/b>th<\/span> of<\/span> December 2023<\/b>, the team announced the addition of ex-<\/span>ENCE<\/b> duo <\/span>Alvaro \u201cSunPayus\u201d Garcia<\/b> & <\/span>Pavle \u201cMaden\u201d Bo\u0161kovi\u0107<\/b>, as well as the transfer of <\/span>four-time Major champion<\/b> and <\/span>one-time Major MVP<\/b> \u2013 <\/span>Emil \u201cMagisk\u201d Reif<\/b>, who, alongside also ex-<\/span>ENCE <\/b>player and <\/span>in-game leader<\/b> Marco \u201cSnappi\u201d Pfeiffer<\/b> & 19-year-old talent <\/span>Mohammad \u201cBOROS\u201d Malhas<\/b>, rounded out the Falcons team that was supposed to carry on ENCE\u2019s 2023 form into 2024 and allow one of the best young aimers to develop and become one of the best in the world, just like <\/span>NertZ<\/b> & <\/span>Spinx<\/b> did with the same core before him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Big<\/p>\n

Sadly, this is <\/span>not what ended up happening<\/b>. Bar the massive investment to assemble and create what was supposed to be a superteam, results were not really there, and it felt like the cohesion wasn\u2019t either. Even before the team had played its first official match with this roster, <\/span>tension seemed to be present courtesy<\/b> of the last-second dramatic turnaround which saw BOROS keep his spot on the team, regardless of the rumours about blockbuster <\/span>Nikola \u201cNiKo\u201d Kova\u010d <\/b>signing from <\/span>G2 Esports<\/b>, which, according to multiple sources, was a \u201cdone deal,\u201d until it wasn\u2019t.<\/span><\/p>\n

With that being said, there was a very sudden flash in the pan for the Falcons that made people believe things could work out. After finishing <\/span>9<\/b>th\u2013<\/span>12<\/b>th at the<\/span> BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2024<\/b>, Snappi & co. surprised many with their <\/span>3<\/b>rd\u2013<\/span>4<\/b>th finish at<\/span> IEM Katowice 2024<\/b>. This event was, and probably always will be, remembered as the<\/span> first chapter<\/b> of<\/span> donk<\/b> & <\/span>Team Spirit\u2019<\/b>s story, but for the Falcons,<\/span> it was hope.<\/b> Losing to <\/span>Eternal Fire<\/b> in their first game in the <\/span>Group Stage<\/b> only to best <\/span>Rebels<\/b>, <\/span>Complexity<\/b> & <\/span>NaVi <\/b>in consecutive matches to get out of groups, and even beating the new<\/span> gla1ve<\/b>-led ENCE in the <\/span>Quarter-Finals<\/b>\u2014all of that, with BOROS playing some solid CS, were good signs for Falcons. Little did they know, that would be <\/span>their best event all year long<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"A<\/span><\/p>\n

Not qualifying for the <\/span>PGL Copenhagen Major 2024<\/b> just weeks after Katowice saw <\/span>BOROS removed from the team<\/b> and, from that point on, the year felt like a <\/span>freefall<\/b>. Allegedly paying <\/span>$1 million<\/b> to<\/span> NaVi <\/b>for a<\/span> one-month-long loan of s1mple <\/b>(during which he played a single series in the<\/span> BLAST Premier Spring Showdown 2024<\/b>, which the team <\/span>lost <\/b>to <\/span>Metizport<\/b>), signing <\/span>Peter \u201cdupreeh\u201d Rasmussen<\/b> in <\/span>March,<\/b> removing <\/span>SunPayus<\/b> from the starting roster in <\/span>September<\/b> only to replace him with s1mple (this time AWPing) for the remainder of the season, and not making it to the<\/span> Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024<\/b> after beating only <\/span>Dynamo Eclot <\/b>and <\/span>losing<\/b> to<\/span> FaZe<\/b>, <\/span>SAW<\/b> & <\/span>GamerLegion<\/b>\u20142024 was a <\/span>complete failure <\/b>for the Falcons. The worst part about it was that it probably felt like all of the players involved \u201clost themselves\u201d in that team.<\/span><\/p>\n

Magisk<\/b> stopped looking like he was still one of the best role\/anchor players in the world; <\/span>Maden <\/b>no longer seemed to have that flamboyant playstyle and sharpness; <\/span>Snappi<\/b> looked suffocated, desperate; and <\/span>SunPayus<\/b>, despite probably being the best player on the team, was just not himself from 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

With that being said, it probably doesn\u2019t come as \u201cbreaking news\u201d to say 2024 was not what the organization was hoping for, and by the time the year ended, it was already <\/span>one of the most disliked teams in the world<\/b>\u2014not because of the players, but because of what it was doing to them. At this point, people seemed to enjoy \u201cpreying\u201d on Falcons\u2019 failures, but it was time for another rebuild, this time with NiKo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chapter 3: A new era<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Shortly after not making the <\/span>Shanghai Major<\/b>, Falcons announced the expected benching of <\/span>Snappi<\/b>, <\/span>Maden<\/b> and <\/span>dupreeh<\/b>, as well as the decision to \u201creturn\u201d <\/span>s1mple <\/b>to <\/span>NaVi,<\/b> meaning only the ex-<\/span>Vitality <\/b>& <\/span>Astralis<\/b> duo of <\/span>Magisk <\/b>and <\/span>zonic <\/b>seemed to be part of the org\u2019s plans for 2025. On the <\/span>3<\/b>rd of <\/span>January 2025<\/b>, the big move finally happened. The transfer that was supposed to be finalized at the end of 2023\u2014and maybe even in the summer of 2024\u2014<\/span>Nikola \u201cNiKo\u201d Kova\u010d <\/b>joined Falcon to become the first piece of their 2025 rebuild and potentially re-ignite the fading spark of the project.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chapter<\/p>\n

Just a day after, in yet another shocking turn of events\u2014and despite conversations about the potential signing of<\/span> Ilya \u201cm0NESY\u201d Osipov<\/b> and\/or<\/span> Jimi \u201cJimpphat\u201d Salo<\/b>\u2014Falcons completed their new lineup after reaching an agreement with <\/span>Heroic <\/b>for the signatures of <\/span>Ren\u00e9 \u201c\u2060TeSeS\u2060\u201d Madsen<\/b>, <\/span>Damjan \u201c\u2060kyxsan\u2060\u201d Stoilkovski <\/b>& <\/span>Abdul \u201c\u2060degster\u2060\u201d Gasanov<\/b>, all of whom had just been key parts in <\/span>Heroic\u2019s Playoff run<\/b> at the <\/span>Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024,<\/b> with rumours suggesting that the Saudi organization paid a blockbuster amount of<\/span> $10 million<\/b>. But did that move get people excited about the Falcons and make them stop comparing the team to a \u201cretirement home for players\u201d? <\/span>Not quite<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The lineup did not look like the promised superteam that everyone expected. With names like <\/span>s1mple<\/b>, <\/span>m0NESY<\/b>, <\/span>Jimpphat <\/b>and even<\/span> siuhy <\/b>being mentioned, you could not blame the fans or pundits for not being over the moon after seeing the Heroic deal announcement, and yet, this one feels different.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNiKo\u2019s era\u201d didn\u2019t start great, but it wasn\u2019t hyper-disastrous either. A <\/span>9<\/b>th\u2013<\/span>16<\/b>th exit at <\/span>BLAST Bounty<\/b> after <\/span>beating ENCE<\/b> and<\/span> losing <\/b>to an in-form <\/span>Eternal Fire<\/b>, plus a <\/span>painful early eliminatio<\/b>n at<\/span> IEM Katowice 2025 <\/b>after another bad loss against<\/span> XANTARES<\/b> & co. and a close<\/span> three-map-series defeat <\/b>against<\/span> G2 Esports<\/b>, almost convinced everyone that this year was going to be just another one in the<\/span> Falcons\u2019 Death Note<\/b>. But as they say about good things,<\/span> sometimes all bad things also must come to an end<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chapter<\/p>\n

Regardless of a hard-fought win against Ukrainian underdogs from <\/span>TNL<\/b>, NiKo & his new teammates were able to completely annihilate<\/span> Boombl4<\/b>\u2019s <\/span>BetBoom <\/b>in the <\/span>IEM Dallas European Closed Qualifier<\/b>, dropping only four rounds across two maps and booking their spot for the <\/span>$1,000,000 <\/b>event. With NiKo posting a <\/span>32-19 K-D<\/b> & a <\/span>1.83 <\/b>rating in the qualification series\u2014which, ahead of <\/span>PGL Cluj-Napoca<\/b>, did give a little bit of hope to the few cheering for the Falcons\u2014it really was that event on Romanian soil that<\/span> made some believe<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the three best teams in the world\u2014<\/span>Team Vitality<\/b>,<\/span> Team Spirit <\/b>&<\/span> Natus Vincere<\/b>\u2014<\/span>missing<\/b>, the <\/span>$1,250,000 <\/b>event in <\/span>Cluj-Napoca <\/b>was a<\/span> great opportunity<\/b> for everyone else to catch up and for some of the<\/span> Tier 1.5\/Tier 2<\/b> teams that got to participate to further strengthen their positions for a potential Major Qualifier Invite. But the best way to describe the event is probably a \u201cHope Giver.\u201d An opportunity for teams like <\/span>FaZe<\/b>, <\/span>The MongolZ<\/b>, and <\/span>Eternal Fire<\/b> to finally win a big LAN tournament in the absence of the top dogs, a chance for other big orgs like <\/span>Falcons<\/b>, <\/span>Astralis<\/b>, <\/span>Virtus.Pro, BIG <\/b>& <\/span>MOUZ <\/b>to show their transfer policy has made them stronger, and a stage for teams like <\/span>paiN<\/b>, <\/span>3DMAX<\/b>, <\/span>MIBR<\/b> & <\/span>Wildcard <\/b>to try and make a surprising deep run\u2014<\/span>PGL Cluj-Napoca<\/b> had all of that<\/b>, but the Falcons were one of the teams to <\/span>make the most of it<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

From the very beginning of the event, the kyxsan-led lineup showed some<\/span> promising signs<\/b> after getting a <\/span>2:0 win<\/b> over <\/span>FlyQuest<\/b>, but the questionable form of the <\/span>Aussies <\/b>kept people skeptical. In the second round of the Main Swiss, the Falcons faced off and<\/span> lost <\/b>in a tight fashion against a well-playing <\/span>paiN Gaming<\/b>, which sent them to the 1-1 bracket with the tall order of playing another team trying to fight its way out of a crisis\u2014<\/span>Astralis<\/b>. The start was not perfect for the Falcons after youngster <\/span>Victor \u201cStaehr\u201d Staehr<\/b> led the Danes to a <\/span>13-6 win<\/b> on <\/span>Ancient<\/b>, but it was not until <\/span>Dust 2 <\/b>& <\/span>Nuke <\/b>that we got to see what the Falcons could do. The second and third map felt like a walk in the park as NiKo dropped a <\/span>24-12 <\/b>on<\/span> Dust <\/b>& a <\/span>17-11 <\/b>on <\/span>Nuke<\/b>, registering an impressive <\/span>1.45<\/b> rating for the series, compensating for the slower series of a lot of his teammates, and that performance started a trend\u2014or shall I say, a streak.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chapter<\/p>\n

In their next game, Falcons played against a hard-hitting <\/span>MOUZ <\/b>side with<\/span> Lotan \u201cSpinx\u201d Giladi <\/b>making his debut and <\/span>Ludvig \u201cBrollan\u201d Brolin <\/b>IGLing, and the outcome was the same. A slow start with an <\/span>8-13 loss<\/b> on <\/span>Dust2,<\/b> followed by a competitive <\/span>Mirage <\/b>and an incredibly one-sided <\/span>Ancient,<\/b> as this time around NiKo\u2019s heroics were assisted by<\/span> Abdul \u201cdegster\u201d Gasanov<\/b> (<\/span>48-48<\/b>, <\/span>1.17<\/b> rating), who topfragged the server, and <\/span>Ren\u00e9 \u201cTeSeS\u201d Madsen (42-44<\/b>, <\/span>1.04<\/b> rating), whose rifle looked as sharp as ever and, at times, even sharper than NiKo\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the upswing didn\u2019t end there. In the <\/span>Quarter-Finals<\/b>, the Falcons <\/span>took down<\/b> a hot <\/span>Eternal Fire<\/b> in a <\/span>2-1<\/b> (13-11, 6-13, 13-8) fashion with the Bosnian superstar & Russian AWPer leading the pack once again, as the same would go on to happen in the <\/span>Semi-Final <\/b>where, shockingly, the <\/span>\u21161 favorite <\/b>to win the entire event\u2014<\/span>FaZe Clan<\/b>\u2014<\/span>couldn\u2019t get a single map against the fired-up dark horse.<\/b><\/p>\n

And just like that, with <\/span>NiKo<\/b>\u2019s capability to completely change a team, <\/span>kyxsan<\/b>\u2019s incredibly dynamic and creative approach to the game, <\/span>degster<\/b>\u2019s flashes of old form from his days on Team Spirit, <\/span>TeSeS\u2019<\/b>s phenomenal sharpness and consistency, and <\/span>Magisk<\/b>\u2019s experience and security, Team Falcons made its <\/span>first Tier 1 LAN Final ever<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Chapter<\/p>\n

Sadly, the <\/span>Grand Finals<\/b> weren\u2019t all about the \u201cmen in green,\u201d and they ended up being the antagonist in <\/span>MOUZ<\/b>\u2019s own story of success in Romania <\/span>after losing the Bo5 clash<\/b> with a<\/span> 1-3 <\/b>score. But that is far from the point. Regardless of <\/span>Vitality<\/b>, <\/span>Spirit <\/b>& <\/span>NaVi<\/b>\u2019s <\/span>absence<\/b>, this Falcons lineup was able to show something that the previous one couldn\u2019t in one year\u2014<\/span>potential<\/b>. Whether it was just the brilliance of <\/span>NiKo<\/b>, the confidence of <\/span>degster <\/b>coming back, <\/span>TeSeS <\/b>playing like a star, or <\/span>kyxsan<\/b> calling out of his mind and doing the best possible preparation work alongside <\/span>zonic<\/b>, Falcons played well for the first time in a long time. We do not know if this form is here to stay or even if this is the five-man lineup that will get the organization where it wants to be, but we know one thing for sure\u2014this team is full of players, and a coach, that have something to prove. Compared to some of the previous iterations, it feels like this <\/span>Falcon might\u2019ve finally been able to find its direction and will to fly.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
