The date is the 16th of October, 2018, and the event is the<\/span> IEM Chicago 2018 Qualifier<\/b> \u2014 the <\/span>official introduction of Team Vitality<\/b> to the world of professional Counter-Strike. A French organisation supporting a team consisting of legendary IGL and two-time Major winner <\/span>Vincent \u201cHappy\u201d Schopenhauer<\/b>, \u201cLe Tank\u201d \u2014 <\/span>C\u00e9dric \u201cRpK\u201d Guipouy<\/b>, two of the most renowned names in French and international Counter-Strike and ex-teammates on <\/span>G2 Esports <\/b>and <\/span>Envy<\/b> \u2014 <\/span>Dan \u201capEX\u201d Madesclaire <\/b>& <\/span>Nathan \u201cNBK-\u201d Schmitt<\/b>, and one 18-year-old prodigy who was supposed to become the next superstar of the scene \u2014 <\/span>Mathieu \u201cZywOo\u201d Herbaut<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In their debut, after going through the Group Stage of the event under the name \u201cWaterboys,\u201d they lost to a fully Danish lineup of <\/span>OpTiC Gaming<\/b> in the Quarter-Finals of the Qualifier \u2014 that was the org\u2019s first touch with CS and the start of a beautiful story.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the course of the next five years, Vitality would rapidly establish itself as <\/span>one of the powerhouses of Tier 1 Counter-Strike<\/b>. With 2018 being just an introduction, between 2019 and 2022, Vitality would end up lifting<\/span> five LAN trophies<\/b>, winning seven Big Events in total, with ZywOo rapidly establishing himself as one of the<\/span> greatest individual players in the world<\/b>, grabbing the <\/span>#1 spot <\/b>on the <\/span>HLTV Top 20<\/b> in two consecutive years (2019 & 2020) and the #2 spot in 2021 and 2022. However, that was not enough.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Creation<\/p>\n

Having one of the best players in the history of the game on your side, and with apEX picking up the IGL role in 2020 and quickly showing a lot of promise as the captain, Vitality needed more than the occasional playoff attendance at a Major or LAN\/Online title with a \u201ccomfortable bracket\u201d \u2014 they needed <\/span>stability<\/b>. Stability that only world-class players \u2014 winners \u2014 could provide. After experimenting with players like <\/span>ALEX<\/b>, <\/span>shox<\/b>, <\/span>misutaaa<\/b>, <\/span>Nivera<\/b>, and <\/span>Kyojin<\/b>, Team Vitality finally made the crucial step toward achieving its Major goal by bringing over <\/span>Astralis<\/b> trio <\/span>Peter \u201cdupreeh\u201d Rasmussen<\/b>,<\/span> Emil \u201cMagisk\u201d Reif <\/b>& <\/span>Danny \u201czonic\u201d S\u00f8rensen<\/b>, with <\/span>ENCE <\/b>star <\/span>Lotan \u201cSpinx\u201d Giladi <\/b>joining only a couple of months later to further strengthen the lineup.<\/span><\/p>\n

That was the Vitality team that ended up reaching the ultimate goal of every Counter-Strike organisation \u2014 winning a Major tournament. Without dropping a single map to its competitors, Vitality ran through <\/span>G2<\/b>, <\/span>ENCE<\/b>, <\/span>Monte<\/b>, <\/span>Into the Breach<\/b>, <\/span>Apeks <\/b>& <\/span>GamerLegion<\/b> to lift its <\/span>first Major trophy<\/b> at the <\/span>BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023<\/b>, with ZywOo picking up the MVP award. The addition of the Danish trio and the Israeli aimer finally bore fruit, regardless of Vitality once again not having to go through the toughest of opposition to achieve greatness.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, that wasn\u2019t all for Vitality until the end of the year. With the addition of free agent <\/span>Shahar \u201cflameZ\u201d Shushan <\/b>to replace dupreeh, \u201cThe Hive\u201d would end up lifting the<\/span> Gamers8 2023<\/b>, <\/span>BLAST Premier Fall Final<\/b> & <\/span>BLAST Premier World Final 2023<\/b> trophies by year\u2019s end, cementing itself as the<\/span> \u21161 team in the world<\/b> and giving ZywOo his<\/span> third HLTV Top 20 #1 <\/b>placement. And truth be told \u2014 Vitality was <\/span>dominant<\/b>, but<\/span> not impenetrable<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Creation<\/p>\n

2024 was a different story. Across the 12 main events that Vitality played in, they made playoffs 11 times, reaching the Semi-Finals four times but winning only one trophy \u2014 regardless of this one title being one of the most prestigious in Counter-Strike history: <\/span>IEM Cologne<\/b>. Sadly, there seemed to be a missing fragment \u2014 a piece of the puzzle that had once been the perfect fit. Whether it was the incalculable variability of time or something else \u2014 things were different. Frustration was evident, and had it not been for the IEM Cologne title, changes to the team might\u2019ve happened even earlier. But there was one certainty \u2014 Vitality could not keep going without a total revamp.<\/span> Who could have known that one person could turn the tides?<\/b><\/p>\n

A New Beginning<\/strong><\/h2>\n

With Spinx out of the team at the start of 2025, Vitality announced the box-office signing of one of the most consistent and successful players in the world over the last seven years \u2014 <\/span>Robin \u201cropz\u201d Kool<\/b>, whose contract with <\/span>FaZe Clan <\/b>had just expired. Joining Vitality was the first step in his own journey of redemption after an unsatisfactory 2024, with only one trophy and his lowest yearly rating since 2018 (1.10). But can the addition of one player really change the atmosphere and performance of a team enough to match Vitality\u2019s 2023 \u2014 or even overcome it?<\/span><\/p>\n

One thing was for sure: there was no more room for excuses. With the contagious negative atmosphere and personal issues on the team resolved, Vitality had signed not just a replacement for Spinx \u2014 but an upgrade. One of the smartest and most skilled players in the game who had seen it all. Someone who had won a Major and a Grand Slam, and was considered the best player in the world at the start of CS2, but who had also lost in unimaginably painful ways; who had tasted the <\/span>big stage <\/b>and <\/span>high-pressure moments<\/b>, and had both<\/span> emerged victoriou<\/b>s and <\/span>fallen victim to the merciless pressure<\/b> and<\/span> sorrow of losing <\/b>when everything was on the line. Very few players could bring all of the above \u2014 alongside a one-of-a-kind work ethic and drive to win \u2014 to a team. Names like <\/span>NiKo<\/b>, <\/span>m0NESY<\/b> and, not too long ago, <\/span>s1mple<\/b>. Those are the players who can change a team no matter what, breathe a new soul into it \u2014 and ropz is one of them. But the best part was \u2014 he didn\u2019t even have to be the #1 star anymore.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

On FaZe Clan, ropz was often \u2014 regardless of being a lurker \u2014 the person everyone looked to for solutions when things didn\u2019t go well. On Vitality, the presence of players like ZywOo and flameZ could be considered a \u201cpressure-lifter\u201d for the Estonian. A team and IGL that give you a voice and freedom \u2014 and yet, don\u2019t need you to be their perpetual driving force whenever push comes to shove.<\/span><\/p>\n

It all adds up perfectly. A team with one of the best players in the world, a world-class IGL, a phenomenal support player, and a flamboyant aimer gains a calm, intelligent, and experienced lurker \u2014 who still has the qualities of a playmaker. It sounds like the best mixture \u2014 because it is.<\/span><\/p>\n

Building Rome in a Day\u2026 or a Couple of Months<\/strong><\/h2>\n

At first, Vitality looked solid \u2014 not spectacular, but pretty good. After beating both <\/span>Metizport <\/b>and <\/span>Virtus.pro <\/b>to qualify for <\/span>BLAST Bounty 2025 S1 Finals<\/b>, apEX & co. would end up losing in a 0:2 (9\u201313, 11\u201313) fashion against a momentum-driven, <\/span>XANTARES<\/b>-led <\/span>Eternal Fire<\/b> that was in its own \u201choneymoon period\u201d after adding <\/span>Samet \u201cjottAAA\u201d K\u00f6kl\u00fc<\/b> at the start of the year. Not a lot could be made out of this performance, as the only maps that Vitality dropped were both 3\u20139 starts. And for anyone familiar with how ferocious MR12 is \u2014 it probably wouldn\u2019t be considered shocking that a slow start could be a new team\u2019s demise. And yet, that one series against Eternal Fire would end up being the first \u2014 and last \u2014 time ropz would taste defeat in the Vitality jersey.<\/span><\/p>\n

After BLAST, it was <\/span>IEM Katowice<\/b>. Five games, only one map lost (to <\/span>FaZe Clan<\/b> in the Group Stage), and merely 22 rounds dropped in the Bo5 Grand Final against<\/span> Team Spirit <\/b>\u2014 in a game where<\/span> Danil \u201cdonk\u201d Kryshkovets<\/b> & co. got a taste of what being completely and utterly outclassed felt like. Vitality didn\u2019t just win Katowice \u2014 they made it look <\/span>easy<\/b>. With ZywOo, ropz and flameZ all delivering incredible individual performances, and the Frenchman earning his <\/span>21st career MVP<\/b> (LAN & Online combined).<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Building<\/p>\n

Then it was <\/span>ESL Pro League Season 21<\/b>. Six series, two maps lost, and just 18 rounds that <\/span>MOUZ<\/b> was able to take off of Vitality in the Grand Final. A <\/span>22nd career MVP <\/b>for ZywOo, and another event where Vitality had to go through a Top 3 team \u2014 and did it flawlessly\u2026 twice.<\/span><\/p>\n

The streak continued at<\/span> BLAST Open Lisbon 2025<\/b>, where, regardless of not playing their best CS, apEX and his boys took down both <\/span>MOUZ<\/b> and <\/span>Spirit <\/b>en route to the Grand Final. Against MOUZ, the first serious tremors arrived. The start was more than promising, with Vitality serving MOUZ the first ever 13\u20130 (or 16\u20130) in a Big Event Grand Final \u2014 on Inferno. However, it wouldn\u2019t be as poetic if the person ropz had replaced \u2014 Spinx \u2014 didn\u2019t play like his life was on the line and get MOUZ right back in the game. With both Mirage and Dust 2 slipping through the fingertips of \u201cthe men in black and yellow\u201d with 11\u201313 scores, Vitality found itself in unfamiliar territory \u2014 with its back against the wall. But the response? It would be an understatement to call it remarkable. Like true champions, Vitality didn\u2019t just come back \u2014 they dominated Nuke and Train, with ZywOo and flameZ taking turns at phenomenal individual performances. But it wasn\u2019t the solo highlights or spectacular kills that were the truly terrifying part \u2014 it was the team. The collective of five players and a coach that looked challenged, wounded, and yet seemed to find fierce excitement in the opportunity to show why they are the best.<\/span><\/p>\n

After taking down MOUZ, Vitality lifted its <\/span>third consecutive trophy<\/b>, boasting a 10\u20130 record on Inferno, 9\u20131 on Dust2, and 4\u20130 on Train \u2014 absolutely unstoppable. To top it all off, the team extended its win streak to <\/span>16 games in a row<\/b>, reaching #4 on the all-time leaderboard and sitting just one win shy of the historic Astralis 17-win streak. And against a much-improved MOUZ, that win was a statement \u2014 that no matter how good the others might become, \u201cThe Hive\u201d would always find its way to the top. A statement that would become the motto of Vitality in the Grand Final to follow.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Building<\/p>\n

\u201cV\u201d is for \u201cVictory\u201d \u2014 \u201cV\u201d is for \u201cVitality\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Going into <\/span>IEM Melbourne 2025<\/b>, Vitality had the chance to lift its fourth trophy in a row, while also breaking Astralis\u2019 record and besting Liquid\u2019s 21-consecutive-win streak in the same event \u2014 all while becoming the fifth team to win the ESL Grand Slam after <\/span>Astralis<\/b> (2017\u201318), <\/span>Team Liquid<\/b> (2019), <\/span>Natus Vincere<\/b> (2019\u20132021), and <\/span>FaZe Clan<\/b> (2021\u201323). With ropz having his eyes set on becoming the second-ever player \u2014 after <\/span>Twistzz<\/b> \u2014 to win two Grand Slams and the first ever to win back-to-back seasons of the prize, Vitality looked determined to do what they had been doing best all year long: <\/span>win<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Four Bo3s and no maps lost paved the path for Vitality toward the Grand Final. But there was one team that was able to push them \u2014 one team that, regardless of losing, reached overtime and was riding its own wave of momentum, annihilating both <\/span>GamerLegion<\/b> (13\u20133, 13\u20134) and <\/span>MOUZ <\/b>(13\u20133, 13\u20136) on the other side of the bracket: the most terrifying challenger Vitality had faced so far \u2014 <\/span>Team Falcons<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The story was simple, yet fascinating. After going down 0\u20132 in the Main Swiss Stage of the<\/span> PGL Bucharest 2025<\/b>, Falcons \u2014 at the time still fielding <\/span>Abdul \u201cdegster\u201d Ghasanov<\/b> as the main AWPer \u2014 ended up winning six series in a row, besting both <\/span>FaZe Clan <\/b>and <\/span>G2 Esports<\/b> in their final two games to lift the organization\u2019s first Big Event trophy ever, only to confirm the addition of NiKo\u2019s ex-teammate and 2024 AWPer of the Year \u2014<\/span> Ilya \u201cm0NESY\u201d Osipov<\/b> \u2014 just hours later.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reuniting <\/span>NiKo<\/b> and <\/span>m0NESY<\/b> on Falcons \u2014 regardless of degster\u2019s improved form and MVP title in Bucharest \u2014 was the injection the team needed, and it showed. On top of the momentum they were already building thanks to their triumph in Romania, m0NESY, as mentioned above, is one of those players who can instantly elevate a team. And having him alongside his three-year teammate, mentor, and friend NiKo was a move that could only make this team what it was always supposed to be \u2014 a title contender.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\u201cV\u201d<\/p>\n

With <\/span>kyxsan<\/b> proving to be one of the most underrated fragging IGLs, <\/span>TeSeS<\/b> popping off, and both NiKo and m0NESY showing their relentlessness as a duo \u2014 Falcons had their sights set on the $100,000 bonus for denying Vitality the Grand Slam, the trophy, and the perfect opportunity to introduce themselves to the world by taking down the undisputed \u21161 of the year \u2014 and they nearly did it.<\/span><\/p>\n

After once again starting off a Grand Final with an Inferno masterclass and a 13\u20132 win, Vitality realized \u2014 this one was different. Whether it was the individual brilliance of kyxsan (26\u201320), the momentum and aura that the Falcons carried with them, the experience, or the pure individual skill \u2014 the team refused to break and leveled things up after a tight 16\u201312 win on Dust2. Vitality made a second attempt at breaking their opponents on Train, stealing it away with a painful eco round win in the second half to put themselves in a 2\u20131 lead \u2014 but again, it wasn\u2019t enough. It was now time for m0NESY to show why he truly is \u201cThe Multi-Million Dollar Man,\u201d powering his way through Mirage with a 23\u201310 score (1.67 rating) to level things up and take it all to a third \u2014 Nuke.<\/span><\/p>\n

Very few times in the history of Counter-Strike have we been fortunate enough to witness a competitive deciding map in a Grand Final when history is truly on the line \u2014 but what Team Vitality and Falcons produced on Nuke wasn\u2019t even that. It was far beyond. It was a <\/span>pure spectacle<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

With Falcons getting a 9\u20133 lead after their CT-side, NiKo and m0NESY found themselves one round away from their first trophy together on the team, and Vitality was against the wall \u2014 6\u201312 deficit, with three Five-Sevens, one SSG 08 (Scout), and a FAMAS to work with. This is where Vitality\u2019s story was supposed to end. But as often happens in mythology and literature \u2014 the protagonist must first die in order to be reborn and become a true legend. And that is what Vitality\u2019s CT-side comeback felt like.<\/span><\/p>\n

Starting with ZywOo\u2019s 1v3 clutch in round 17, a 1v1 clutch from mezii to deny TeSeS\u2019s 1v4 and save Vitality at 6\u201312, round after round, play after play \u2014 Vitality brought the game back from the depths of hell. And after three overtimes of heartbreak, celebration, stress, sweat, and unimaginable drama \u2014 they showed what true champions are made of. Vitality\u2019s initiation, if you will \u2014 the rebirth of a dead hero, ready to write its name in the history books of Counter-Strike no matter what.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\u201cV\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It has been an incredibly long time since we\u2019ve seen a team so dominant and, quite frankly, so unbeatable in Counter-Strike. One might say only NAVI (2021) and FaZe Clan after them ever came close to replicating what Astralis did between 2017 and 2019 \u2014 but a new contender has arisen. And with four trophies, a Grand Slam, Liquid\u2019s second-place record for the most consecutive series wins, and the <\/span>BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025<\/b> starting in just over a month \u2014 Team Vitality is forging its own dynasty. An era that might, for now, be no more than a seed \u2014 but one with the potential to become an ancient tree.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
