The tournament will feature 32 teams who qualified through tough regional events or received direct invites. Let\u2019s take a look at the Opening Stage \u2014 its format, the initial matchups, and the teams competing for a spot in the next phase.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>BLASTtv Austin Major 2025: Stage 1 Format<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first stage of the Major in Astana \u2014 known as the \u201cOpening Stage\u201d \u2014 is played in a Swiss system format with 16 participating teams. All of them will compete for 8 spots in the next phase \u2014 the \u201cLegends Stage\u201d, while the remaining 8 teams will be eliminated from the tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Match System:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"article-list-pink\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" class=\"article-list-pink__item\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Round 1 is seeded based on the teams\u2019 initial placements, determined by the results of the RMR events.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" class=\"article-list-pink__item\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rounds 2 to 5 use the Buchholz system, which takes into account the results of previous opponents to ensure the fairest matchups possible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" class=\"article-list-pink__item\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teams that achieve 3 wins advance to the next stage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" class=\"article-list-pink__item\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teams that suffer 3 losses are eliminated from the tournament.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Match Formats:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"article-list-pink\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" class=\"article-list-pink__item\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All matches, except for elimination and advancement games, are played in a best-of-1 format.
