Counter-Strike is a team game. And as in any other team game, every lineup needs to work like a well-drilled and functional organism, with all its organs and muscles performing their respective functions. From the brain and mouth of the team\u2014the in-game leader and the coach\u2014through the explosive fists that are the aggressive riflers, and the legs and stability that the support and anchor players provide\u2014every piece of the team has its role. But what part of that body would suit the <\/span>AWPer metaphor<\/b>? For the author of this article, the one handling the most expensive gun\u2014the gun that could change the fate of a game with a single click of the mouse\u2014it\u2019s a couple of them. The AWPer is the lungs that help the team take a breath when suffocated by pressure, the spine and back muscles that help you pull yourself back, and lastly\u2014the heart that pumps fresh blood through the team\u2019s circulatory system.<\/span><\/p>\n

But what happens when you don\u2019t have someone reliable, someone to simultaneously be the pillar and the X factor of your team? Well, you look abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the biggest issues for regions outside of Europe has been creating stable in-game leaders\u2014but even more so, AWPers. Sometimes, regions like <\/span>North America<\/b>, <\/span>Asia<\/b>, and <\/span>Australia<\/b> are the ones giving European snipers the stage and resources to develop their potential more than they ever would in the much more competitive and ferocious European scene, dominated by the breathtaking CIS AWP hegemony\u2014especially below the Tier 1 events.<\/span><\/p>\n

Going back in time, picking up AWPers from \u201cthe Old Continent\u201d has always been a preferred option for NA IGLs. From <\/span>Oscar \u201cmixwell\u201d Ca\u00f1ellas <\/b>on <\/span>OpTiC Gaming <\/b>(2016\u20132018),<\/span> Tsvetelin \u201cCeRq\u201d Dimitrov<\/b> on <\/span>NRG<\/b> &<\/span> EG<\/b> (2017\u20132023), and even <\/span>Oleksandr \u201cs1mple\u201d Kostyliev <\/b>himself on <\/span>Liquid <\/b>in 2016, the North American region has often relied on EU AWPers to fill the gap and accelerate their development. And with the <\/span>BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025<\/b> right around the corner, it\u2019s worth looking into the youngest and most exciting European AWPers who will be representing not only their own flags, but also those of North American and South American countries\u2014as well as that of Australia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Danil \u201cmolodoy\u201d Golubenko (FURIA)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"Danil<\/p>\n

Having joined <\/span>FURIA<\/b> in what was an ambitious and brave decision to transition to international Counter-Strike from the Brazilian organization, the 20-year-old Kazakh AWPer suddenly got a lot of eyes on him. But for the many who had been fortunate enough to witness the youngster\u2019s first steps in Tier 2 on the European circuit, a move like this\u2014albeit surprising\u2014was still on the horizon, if not now, then sometime in the foreseeable future.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unlike many of his peers, <\/span>molodoy<\/b> didn\u2019t need to spend years fighting his way through the echelons of online CS to get his shot\u2014not because he was lucky, but because he was special. In fact, he made his HLTV debut just around one year ago, on May 12, 2024, as part of the Kazakh lineup of <\/span>ALLINNERS<\/b>. But even then, \u201cThe FACEIT demon\u201d looked promising. In just seven months, molodoy found himself on <\/span>DMS<\/b>, whose lineup got transferred over to <\/span>AMKAL<\/b> at the end of the year. Having played <\/span>10 events<\/b>, including qualifiers, and <\/span>67 maps <\/b>with AMKAL in 2025, the Kazakh averaged a<\/span> 1.26 <\/b>rating and <\/span>1.29 <\/b>impact\u2014but the stats don\u2019t fully tell the story of what he was doing. For an AWPer who had played merely <\/span>148 maps<\/b> before joining FURIA, molodoy already looked like a complete player: intelligent, able to navigate around his aggressive riflers, supportive yet capable of taking initiative. An AWPer still so young, adaptable, and moldable to the team\u2019s needs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alongside molodoy, FURIA signed ex-<\/span>Liquid<\/b> and<\/span> VP<\/b> player\u2014and experienced rifler\u2014<\/span>YEKINDAR<\/b>, to sharpen the team and make molodoy\u2019s introduction even smoother. With a player like YEKINDAR and assistant coach <\/span>KrizzeN <\/b>(also Kazakh), the cultural gap could be easier to bridge. And if that wasn\u2019t enough, molodoy has the privilege of being teammates with one of the most intelligent and successful AWPers in the game\u2019s history\u2014<\/span>Gabriel \u201cFalleN\u201d Toledo<\/b>. Someone who, despite no longer being the player he once was, holds the experience of tens\u2014no, hundreds\u2014of players within his brain.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whether an international FURIA will work, only time will tell. But one thing is for sure: after solid performances at both <\/span>PGL Astana<\/b> and, especially, <\/span>IEM Dallas 2025<\/b>, molodoy keeps convincing everyone that he is a quick study. Finding himself on the big stages just one year after his professional debut is no coincidence.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iulian \u201cregali\u201d Harj\u0103u (FlyQuest)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Unlike molodoy, this 22-year-old has had to endure serious tremors to finally make it to the Major scene\u2014albeit also as a debutant. <\/span>Regali\u2019<\/b>s story has always stubbornly piqued my interest. Starting his career in 2020 on the Romanian lineup of <\/span>GameAgents<\/b>, regali is one of the few Romanian talents who never went through \u201cThe BTN Academy\u201d\u2014in other words, was never part of <\/span>Nexus<\/b>. After just one year on GA, the ultra-aggressive AWPer was quickly approached by<\/span> Fnatic<\/b>\u2019s academy project\u2014Fnatic Rising\u2014leading the team to three<\/span> Top 5 finishes<\/b> at the <\/span>WePlay Academy League <\/b>and cementing his reputation as an undeniable talent expected to eventually earn a spot on the main team. And he did, in a way.<\/span><\/p>\n

One month and just four maps of open qualifiers\u2014an opportunity that, on paper, arrived, but was never truly there for the taking. That \u201ctrial\u201d marked the start of a series of dysfunctional stints for the young Romanian. First came <\/span>Copenhagen Flames<\/b>, where\u2014while speaking Danish and being the only non-Danish player\u2014regali had to fight through cultural and age differences. Regardless of still looking sharp, he ended up being the first to go when results faltered, after just seven months. Then came<\/span> OG<\/b>\u2014the supposed way forward and the opportunity to finally cement himself as a Major player\u2014but it didn\u2019t work out.<\/span><\/p>\n

OG was different in the longevity of regali\u2019s stay. The AWPer spent nearly eight months and played <\/span>19 events<\/b> on the international lineup, but with changing leadership and lack of consistency, he was once again in a position of good individual form without team success. The same happened with <\/span>Entropiq<\/b>\u2014just one month before the organization left Counter-Strike.<\/span><\/p>\n

But at the end of 2024, something unexpected happened\u2014two sides desperate for change found the answer in each other. <\/span>FlyQues<\/b>t<\/span>,<\/b> who had just qualified for the <\/span>Perfect World Shanghai Major<\/b> and were improving, still weren\u2019t satisfied. They brought in a young, aggressive, mechanically phenomenal AWPer\u2014and that\u2019s exactly what they got.<\/span><\/p>\n

Regali joined FlyQuest in one of the most unexpected moves of the transfer window\u2014a Romanian AWPer who had played in Romanian, Danish, and European teams now going to an Australian team hosted by an American organization. And the results were almost instant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite the team still adjusting and even parting ways with veteran IGL and captain <\/span>dexter <\/b>(replaced by INS, with 21-year-old <\/span>Corey \u201cnettik\u201d Browne<\/b> as the new fifth), regali still looked solid. Marking his career-best Big Event performance with a<\/span> 1.24 <\/b>rating at <\/span>IEM Melbourne 2025<\/b>, regali is finally finding his groove on FlyQuest\u2014a team that allows an above-average aggressive AWPer, who sometimes wants to spearhead the attack, to thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n

And yet, it would be inaccurate to say regali isn\u2019t making conscious efforts to limit himself for the team\u2019s sake. Whether it\u2019s throwing flashes on the T-side, holding angles while nettik and Vexite run in, or keeping the atmosphere positive with his relentless energy, regali is both the X factor and the clutch player. With his first-ever Major approaching, he\u2019s ready to show the world what he\u2019s got.<\/span><\/p>\n

Love \u201cphzy\u201d Smidebrant (Wildcard)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"Love<\/p>\n

When speaking of North American IGLs who have preferred European AWPers and succeeded in making them shine, one name can\u2019t be ignored: <\/span>Peter \u201cstanislaw\u201d Jarguz<\/b>. The 31-year-old has his own heroic return story. After seven Majors and a<\/span> Top 4 <\/b>at <\/span>StarLadder Berlin 2019<\/b> with <\/span>EG<\/b>, stanislaw had to fight his way back. Just as he did with mixwell on <\/span>OpTiC <\/b>and <\/span>CeRq <\/b>on <\/span>NRG<\/b> and EG\u2014he needed a European AWPer.<\/span><\/p>\n

After a brief and unfruitful five-month stay on<\/span> Rare Atom <\/b>in 2023\/2024, Swedish AWPer <\/span>phzy<\/b> found himself in need of a new opportunity\u2014a team where he could thrive and feel like a star, even while being a team player. Phzy has never been a \u201cme first\u201d AWPer. He finds comfort in clutches and support, meaning he needs assertive riflers he can assist in winning impossible rounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

To this day, phzy remains one of the most underrated AWPers at the Tier 1.5 level. A swift decision-maker with good utility usage, he\u2019s willing to sacrifice for the team and adapt to whatever identity is needed for a round.<\/span><\/p>\n

With experience from <\/span>Young Ninjas<\/b>, <\/span>NIP<\/b>, <\/span>Sangal<\/b>, and <\/span>Rare Atom<\/b>, phzy is arguably the most complete AWPer on this list\u2014especially with a <\/span>top-16<\/b> finish at the <\/span>Perfect World Shanghai Major<\/b> under his belt. Still, he described that performance as a hidden curse, saying it might have caused<\/span> Wildcard <\/b>to overestimate themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

Even so, with the team reaching <\/span>Stage 1<\/b> of the Major without complications, phzy is looking to prove he can still go toe-to-toe with the best\u2014and perhaps become yet another European AWPer that stanislaw has led to the world\u2019s biggest stages.<\/span><\/p>\n

Honorable mentions<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"Honorable<\/p>\n

Though this article focuses on young and aspiring AWPers, players like <\/span>H\u00e5kon \u201challzerk\u201d Fj\u00e6rli <\/b>are hard to overlook. The 24-year-old Norwegian <\/span>Complexity<\/b> star is rumored to miss the <\/span>Austin Major<\/b>\u2014a significant blow to CoL\u2019s ambitions. Over the past three years, hallzerk has proven to be one of the lineup\u2019s most reliable and essential players\u2014a true leader and backbone.<\/span><\/p>\n

Likewise, while perhaps no longer a \u201cyoung talent,\u201d <\/span>M80<\/b>\u2019s \u201cGerman surgeon\u201d<\/span> Fritz \u201cslaxz-\u201d Dietrich <\/b>will attend only his second Major\u2014his first since <\/span>IEM Rio 2022<\/b>, when he still played for <\/span>Sprout<\/b>. Slaxz- has been central to M80\u2019s dominant North American run in 2025, and his performance will be key if they\u2019re to make an impact at the BLAST Austin Major.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
