Amidst powerhouses like <\/span>Team Vitality<\/b>,<\/span> MOUZ<\/b>, <\/span>Team Spirit,<\/b> and<\/span> Falcons<\/b>\u2014each with their personal agendas and ambitious goals heading into the first CS2 Major of 2025\u2014there were a couple of teams lurking in the shadows, waiting to take their progress and solid achievements to the next level.<\/span><\/p>\n

While all the \u201ctop dogs\u201d entered the Major with the trophy in their sights, most fans and analysts focused on the <\/span>Top 4<\/b>: Vitality\u2019s quest for greatness, Falcons\u2019 opportunity to finally \u201cslay the giant,\u201d and Spirit and MOUZ\u2019s aspirations to break through the mold and lift a Major trophy. It wouldn\u2019t be an understatement to say many forgot about \u201cthe best after the best\u201d\u2014the teams that consistently made playoffs in 2025 but never managed to lift a trophy or overcome the pressure of performing in front of a live audience.<\/span><\/p>\n

Teams like <\/span>Aurora<\/b> and <\/span>The MongolZ<\/b>, who were playing not only for themselves but also for their nations and patriotic pride. While Aurora fell short and couldn\u2019t meet expectations, The MongolZ reminded us all of the magic that Majors on North American soil often bring to the table.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Asia\u2019s<\/p>\n

Progress in 2024<\/strong><\/h2>\n

After qualifying for the <\/span>BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023<\/b>, The MongolZ bolstered their lineup by signing Mongolian rifler and superstar <\/span>Azbayar \u201cSenzu\u201d Munkhbold<\/b>, setting their sights on taking 2024 by storm. Their goal was to reach the heights of the only previous Asian team to ever make the <\/span>Top 16 <\/b>at a Major (<\/span>TYLOO <\/b>at the<\/span> FACEIT London Major in 2018<\/b>). Entering 2024 as the <\/span>#21<\/b> team in the world (HLTV Ranking), they quickly showed promise. Their undeniable firepower and surprisingly simplified yet efficient approach helped them secure the <\/span>#1 seed <\/b>at the <\/span>Asian RMR <\/b>for the <\/span>Copenhagen Major <\/b>and battle through the Opening Stage with a 3-2 record, equaling TYLOO\u2019s Top 16 finish.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, making the Playoffs proved too difficult, and the <\/span>Garidmagnai \u201cbLitz\u201d Byambasuren<\/b>-led team couldn\u2019t secure a win in the Main Stage\u2014but that was just the beginning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the next six months, The MongolZ won four LAN events, defeating <\/span>ATOX<\/b>, <\/span>BLEED Esports<\/b>, <\/span>NIP<\/b>, and <\/span>Heroic<\/b> in the Grand Finals of the <\/span>MESA Pro Series Finals 2024<\/b>, <\/span>MESA Nomadic Masters Spring 2024<\/b>, <\/span>YaLLa Compass 2024 Abu Dhabi<\/b>, and<\/span> Thunderpick World Championship 2024 Finals Malta<\/b>, respectively\u2014amassing nearly $1 million in prize money.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Progress<\/p>\n

Then came the <\/span>Shanghai Major<\/b>. On home soil, with <\/span>Erdenedalai \u201cmaaRaa\u201d Bayanbat <\/b>at the helm, the Mongolian squad dominated the <\/span>Asian RMR<\/b>. They advanced through the Opening Stage with a flawless <\/span>3-0<\/b>, defeating <\/span>Rare Atom<\/b>, <\/span>MIBR<\/b>, and <\/span>GamerLegion <\/b>without dropping a single map. Even more impressive was their performance in the Main Swiss: defeating <\/span>G2 Esports<\/b> and <\/span>MOUZ<\/b> in Bo1s and beating <\/span>Heroic 2-1<\/b> in a qualification match to become the first-ever Asian team to reach Major Playoffs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Though they ultimately lost to MOUZ in front of the home crowd, with Usukhbayar \u201c910\u201d Bangzarch and Ayush \u201cmzinho\u201d Batbold shining brightly\u2014and star player Senzu farming the Opening Stage\u2014TheMongolZ had become a force to be reckoned with and had officially entered the Tier 1 circuit. The only question was: were they here to stay?<\/span><\/p>\n

Unmatched Consistency<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Following their impressive 2024, the Mongolian squad kicked off 2025 by reaching the Semi-Finals of <\/span>IEM Katowice<\/b>, falling to the eventual champions, Team Vitality. That wasn\u2019t their only statement. In the first half of 2025, The MongolZ reached the Playoffs of 7<\/span> out of 8 LAN events<\/b>, being eliminated mostly by Vitality, MOUZ, Falcons, and Aurora. It was becoming clear\u2014TheMongolZ had become one of Tier 1 Counter-Strike\u2019s gatekeepers: a team unlikely to upset the very best but highly consistent in beating those below them, ready to punish any slip-up.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Unmatched<\/p>\n

Individually, <\/span>910 <\/b>and <\/span>Senzu<\/b> led the charge. Senzu\u2019s numbers weren\u2019t always spectacular, but his consistency stood out, posting ratings between <\/span>1.07<\/b> and <\/span>1.19<\/b> (except at <\/span>IEM Katowice<\/b> and <\/span>IEM Melbourne<\/b>). 910, meanwhile, was more erratic\u2014brilliant in some games but invisible in others. Still, after posting a year-high <\/span>1.22 <\/b>rating at<\/span> IEM Dallas<\/b> (where The MongolZ again lost in the Semis to Vitality), his growth as an AWPer was evident. Incredibly skilled and quick, he was one of the few \u201ctraditional AWPers\u201d still loyal to the \u201cBig Green,\u201d with<\/span> 51.7% <\/b>of his kills coming from it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Major Time<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The MongolZ entered the Major ranked<\/span> #5 in the world<\/b>\u2014an all-time high\u2014and began their run in Stage 3. The start was shaky. After dropping an <\/span>11-13 <\/b>Inferno to <\/span>FURIA<\/b>, they fought back with<\/span> 13-7<\/b> wins over<\/span> Team Liquid <\/b>and<\/span> Lynn Vision<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then came the shock. On Ancient against <\/span>FaZe Clan<\/b>, they started strong with a<\/span> 7-1<\/b> T-side, but collapsed. They lost <\/span>11-13 <\/b>on Ancient and were crushed<\/span> 4-13<\/b> on Anubis, with 910 posting one of his worst Major Bo3 performances: a <\/span>0.75 <\/b>rating and just <\/span>19 kills<\/b> over two maps.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was redemption time. Their last shot at making the Playoffs came against a crumbling <\/span>G2 Esports<\/b>, playing with hades as a stand-in AWPer and facing imminent roster changes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Game 1 started calmly. Despite losing the CT pistol, The MongolZ secured six rounds on defense and stormed the T-side <\/span>7-0 <\/b>to close out a convincing <\/span>13-6<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dust2 was a different story. After falling behind<\/span> 1-6 <\/b>and <\/span>0-5<\/b> on CT and T sides respectively, a hero was needed\u2014and it was, once again, Senzu. He posted a <\/span>1.61 <\/b>rating, his fifth-highest Major map rating, and broke the record for most kills on a single Major map with <\/span>36<\/b> in 24 rounds. With bLitz adding <\/span>48 kills<\/b> and <\/span>105.7 ADR<\/b>, and 910 contributing <\/span>31 AWP kills<\/b>, The MongolZ beat G2 <\/span>2-0 <\/b>and punched their ticket to the <\/span>Moody Center<\/b> in <\/span>Austin<\/b>, Texas.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Major<\/p>\n

The Playoffs<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The next few days were\u2026 special. The MongolZ ended FaZe Clan\u2019s Cinderella run with a confident <\/span>2-0 <\/b>revenge match where both 910 and Senzu once again dominated. The Semi-Final against <\/span>paiN Gaming<\/b>? Business as usual. All five players had between <\/span>25 and 27 kills<\/b>, and the Mongolians dropped just <\/span>10 rounds <\/b>across two maps.<\/span><\/p>\n

By then, they had become the first Asian team to reach both the Semi-Finals and Grand Final of a CS:GO or CS2 Major\u2014and the youngest team ever to reach a Final, with an average age of just 20.8.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s revenge time.\u201d \u2014 <\/span>Techno4k <\/b>to HLTV before the Grand Final against Vitality<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n

The MongolZ were the undeniable underdogs. Having lost their last four matches to Vitality, and with Vitality seeking the \u201clast jewel for their crown,\u201d the odds were stacked against them.<\/span><\/p>\n

But they didn\u2019t go down without a fight.<\/span><\/p>\n

Having taken Vitality to the limit in Dallas\u2014winning Nuke <\/span>13-7 <\/b>and posting <\/span>10 and 11 rounds <\/b>on Inferno and Mirage\u2014Techno4k and his teammates believed this was their perfect opportunity to get revenge and \u201ckill the giant.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Mirage was surreal, fantastic, shocking\u2014everything. Thousands of Mongolian fans gathered in Ulaanbaatar at 4:00 AM on a Monday to watch their heroes whip the floor with the best team in the world. From 910\u2019s unstoppable AWP plays to Senzu\u2019s multi-kills and Techno4k\u2019s magical clutches, The MongolZ were not just the better team\u2014they were the team. It was a field day.<\/span><\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t just a storybook run. It was proof they belonged.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, that was all they had left in the tank. Vitality\u2019s unmatched skill, preparation, and the incredible leadership of<\/span> Dan \u201capEX\u201d Madesclaire<\/b> brought the Mongolian dream to an end. With dominant wins on Dust2 and Inferno, Vitality lifted the trophy and cemented themselves as <\/span>one of the greatest teams ever<\/b>. But The MongolZ went out as heroes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

The Future<\/strong><\/h2>\n

No matter what happens next, this Mongolian team has already made history. Players who once traveled for hours with barely enough money to attend local LANs now carry the hopes of a nation. Unlike many before them, The MongolZ look like they\u2019re here to stay.<\/span><\/p>\n

A team with no player over 23, only recently introduced to Tier 1 play, but already showing tremendous growth\u2014not just in skill, but in composure and resilience\u2014is anything but a flash in the pan.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
