Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has appeared on Steam as a standalone application. Previously, this version of the game was only accessible as the csgo_legacy branch within Counter-Strike 2, but now Valve has made it available as a separate installable game on Steam.<\/p>\n

In practice, this is the same legacy build that allowed players to launch the old version of CS:GO after the transition to CS2. Possible reason \u2014 CS2 coordinator changes<\/h3>\n

One possible explanation for this move is Valve preparing Counter-Strike 2 for a transition to a new game coordinator.<\/p>\n

If that transition happens, it could break the ability to launch CS:GO Legacy through CS2 launch parameters, which previously allowed players to access the older version of the game. By separating CS:GO into its own application, Valve may be ensuring that the legacy build remains accessible even after those backend changes.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Valve previously referenced a coordinator transition in one of the CS2 updates, although the comment was later removed from the patch notes.<\/p>\n
