In the early stages of a Major, there are always series after which the hierarchy of favorites has to be reconsidered quickly. Sometimes one confident match is enough for a team not only to move on, but also to sharply change the tone of the conversation around the entire stage.<\/p>\n

Tournament context<\/strong><\/h2>\n

IEM Cologne Major 2026 Stage 1 is played in a Swiss format: the opening matches are played as Bo1, while elimination and qualification series for the next stage are played as Bo3. Matches between teams with a 2:0 record carry special weight, because a win immediately guarantees a slot in Stage 2, while a loss does not eliminate a team from the tournament, but sends it into the dangerous 2:1 pool.<\/p>\n
