We\u2019ve begun a new season of Counter-Strike and, as per usual, it\u2019s started with a flurry of roster changes and speculation! Now I would hate to be left out of all this drama, so what better way to get involved than to write down some predictions that I can later highlight if they go well, or forget if they turn out bad.<\/span><\/p>\n

We start with MAJ3R stepping away as captain from Aurora to do \u2018other things\u2019. First of all, I think it\u2019s worth recognizing just what a cool career MAJ3R has had so far and what a struggle it was to take the former Space Soldiers lineup that he himself was constantly in and out of, and actually make it work in Eternal Fire to finally put Turkish Counter-Strike on the world map. But for Aurora this now means that they appear to have set their sights on an international lineup, starting with a pickup in Jimpphat and adding Ash as a coach. In my estimation, Jimmy is a rare talent who I reckon has a lot of flexibility in him. Some players I think you could say are good at a few things only, but if you take them outside of that comfort zone, the results become less impressive. It\u2019ll be interesting to see how they round out this squad, but honestly, if XANTARES can keep his hands healthy and Jimmy and the social aspect of the team work out, I\u2019d argue Aurora look like they are coming into this 2nd half of the year very strong.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Monte\/100T\/Luminosity debacle is as exciting as it is confusing. In short, Luminosity bought out the Monte core, but had apparently already bought Lux, meaning there was no space for Gizmy who, in some sense, appears to have been the real prize of the squad. IGLs are hard to come by, and I would argue that Gizmy had managed to put together the old Monte lineup in a way that made them more than the sum of their parts. Tactically too, the Monte squad had a lot of great ideas and were a very adaptable team.<\/span><\/p>\n

This means that 100T now has Rain, Dev1ce, Gizmy, sirah and poiii. It\u2019s interesting how both Luminosity and 100T, who are high-powered organizations in the world of esports, have both gone the route of trying to build their way to success with a somewhat modest investment. I\u2019ve said before that I kind of prefer this approach, assuming the orgs are actually serious about building the culture that goes with it. If the goal is to keep switching rosters until something magically works, then that\u2019s an awful prospect. But I think the underdog route can be a really inspiring one and can give a team a real sense of identity and will stave off the usual threat of high expectations. So in that sense, I can see how there might be some built-in friction in the 100T setup. I imagine Sirah and poiii are more easily going to fit into the kind of story that Gizmy has come from. They built something from nothing. But Dev1ce and Rain, I think, have a big job in deciding if they are ready for another rebuild. I don\u2019t say this to doubt their talent or love for the game. I say it because I reckon that the older you get, the harder it is to start over, at least for most people. If they successfully do so, however, I think it would be an incredible story for both veterans.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Luminosity lineup I am simultaneously skeptical and intrigued by. From my perspective, the core of Rainwaker, Bymas, Afro and AZUWU were all interesting players in their own right. But the glue that really held it all together was Gizmy. So my skepticism comes from the idea that you just replace Gizmy with LUX and carry on like nothing had happened. But I am beyond intrigued to see how this plays out.<\/span><\/p>\n

The next big switch-up, in my opinion, is BC.game picking up Magisk. In truth, I have never been able to comprehend any of the BCG rosters. In fact, I would say the most interesting thing about the organization so far has been just how impossible it has been to predict their next move. But somehow they have ended up doing a sort of stumble into a role and straight into a lineup I actually think can be kind of sick. This is in many ways like the unc nostalgia lineup. S1mple, electronic, Magisk and Senzu for now. From a firepower perspective, this could already be a really solid start, assuming a few things turn out right. Electronic has been kind of all over the place, but if he can re-focus his attention to just shooting hard, I think he\u2019ll be good enough. Magisk is probably one of the bigger aspects that a lot of people doubt, but not me. I think Magisk gave everything he had to make the various Falcons lineups work, and when he had nothing left to give, he kept on trying. I think the result of that was that his confidence in his own game simply failed at some point. Once that happens, there isn\u2019t much left to be done, but I think Magisk is the kind of person who can bounce back from this kind of hit. At his core, Emil is just a happy guy who loves CS, and that is a huge strength. Hopefully BC.game finds a strong fifth and figures out a way to just have fun playing the game first. I think fundamentally that is the most important thing for this team. If they can do that, then I reckon the rest will follow.<\/span><\/p>\n

JBOEN has joined FaZe in a move that literally nobody had considered and that felt a bit ridiculous. But in this case, we have the added advantage of having actually seen him playing with FaZe in the XSE tournament, and he looks confident beyond words. The first few rounds had people calling him Joe Biden for some reason, but quickly that stopped and it feels like the community is now widely on his side. As for the rest of FaZe, it\u2019s really hard to say which direction this is all going in. The optimistic version here is that JBOEN keeps playing the way that he is now, and Twistzz and Frozen return to their A-game. If that happens, then this could be a really terrifying team. I still think Jcobbb has been handed a truly raw deal since joining FaZe. I remember seeing him play before he joined FaZe in tier 2 CS. I remember thinking this guy is truly something, and I don\u2019t want to give up on that idea just yet. I hope Jacob ultimately regains a little more of a stable situation in this team so he can regain some of his lost identity. I know a lot of the community have long since given up on Jcobbb, but I will give it longer before I start to question my original intuition.<\/span><\/p>\n

A last word on NiP. It is my understanding that n0te is a temporary solution since r1nkle has gone to G2, where he is replacing SunPayus. This in itself is interesting. But it also leaves NiP in a strange situation. I think most concerning for me is that Kacpersky appears to be suffering on an individual level from the current state of the team. I feel like Kacpersky\u2019s shine within this team is slowly fading, not because he isn\u2019t a great player, but because something just isn\u2019t working right now. It will be interesting to see how the organization resolves this problem. But to be honest, even while r1nkle was still in the lineup, it felt as though Kacper just wasn\u2019t feeling 100%, so my real concern is that time is running out on fixing these problems before they cement themselves in the team and the players. I guess ultimately my test for how well NiP can find a solution will be based on Kacpersky\u2019s performances over the next few months. In my opinion, he is their superweapon, and if they fail to make this work, I think the team will have a much harder time rebuilding into the 2nd season of 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

I think this time of the year is always very exciting because while it\u2019s always easier to see how the teams we know, which made no roster changes, can keep playing well, it\u2019s always hard to judge how a new team might fare. But we know eventually some of these projects will fail and some will succeed, and ultimately that drama is delicious. Toward the end of the year we will revisit this topic again, I\u2019m sure, and it will be interesting to see how this has all turned out.<\/span><\/p>\n
