For a scene used to blockbuster transfers around superstar riflers, elite AWPers and proven trophy winners, this felt almost unheard of.

Why was a core outside the top 10 suddenly being valued like a premium asset? But that framing is too simple, and probably unfair to the players. The better story is about incentives. BC.Game bought access, ranking position, event invites and the illusion of a ready-made structure. SAW, meanwhile, sold at the top of the market, watched the gamble collapse elsewhere, and later rebuilt around familiar faces at a fraction of the public cost.

The transfer made sense only when viewed through the VRS lens. MUTiRiS, krazy and aragornN did not arrive as a traditional superstar trio, but they arrived as a three-man core with ranking value. That distinction matters. Under Valve’s modern ecosystem, a core is not just a competitive unit. It can also carry access, seeding and invitations. For an organization trying to build around names as large as s1mple and electroNic, the SAW trio offered a shortcut that would have taken months to earn naturally.

The Transfer Was About More Than Players

The reason the move attracted so much attention was not only because s1mple and electroNic were involved. It was because BC.Game appeared to be trying to buy a shortcut into relevance. Under the Valve Regional Standings system, established cores can carry value that goes beyond their immediate firepower. A newly built roster has to grind for ranking points and event access, while a purchased core can potentially bring some of that access with it.

That made SAW’s Portuguese trio unusually attractive. They were not arriving as the most mechanically overwhelming trio on the market, but they came with competitive history, an existing leadership structure and enough ranking relevance to place BC.Game closer to the top circuit than a fresh roster would normally be. In that sense, this an acquisition of position.

The central question, however, was always whether the move made sense inside the server. MUTiRiS was an experienced IGL, but he was being placed into a lineup with two of the strongest voices of the last decade in s1mple and electroNic. krazy and aragornN were solid pieces in a Portuguese system, but BC.Game were asking them to immediately function in a far more scrutinized international environment. The roster was decent for a tier-2 team, but with that kind of pressure to perform next to s1mple, the individual firepower was simply not enough.

Kraków Gave the Project Its Only Real Hope

The first real test came at IEM Kraków 2026, and for a short time the move looked defensible. BC.Game opened with a comeback win over Legacy, later beat Ninjas in Pyjamas, and advanced out of the opening stage. The individual numbers from the opening stage also gave supporters something to point at. krazy posted a 1.11 rating across six maps at IEM Kraków 2026 Stage 1, while aragornN finished the same stage with a 0.97 rating. At that point, the project still had room to be viewed as raw rather than broken.

The problem arrived when BC.Game faced stronger opposition. Against 3DMAX in Stage 1, they were beaten heavily, losing 13-3 on Overpass and 13-4 on Anubis. The ratings from that series were brutal for the Portuguese trio: krazy finished with a 0.82 rating, aragornN with 0.48, and MUTiRiS with 0.47. One bad series should never define an entire roster, but this one exposed the concern that had followed the team from the start. Against sharper opposition, BC.Game looked less like a dangerous new project and more like a roster assembled for access before cohesion.

Photo Copyright by ESL

The main event did not change that impression. BC.Game were eliminated in Stage 2 after losses to Vitality and FaZe. Across IEM Kraków 2026 proper, krazy finished with a 0.93 rating over five maps, while aragornN finished with a 0.84. The team had done enough to enter the room, but not enough to look like it truly belonged there.

krazy was the strongest statistical performer of the three, but even his form trended downward once the team left the initial Kraków stage. His event ratings moved from 1.11 at IEM Kraków 2026 Stage 1 to 0.93 at IEM Kraków proper, 0.94 at Parken Challenger Championship Season 1, 0.70 at HyperX Roman Imperium Cup VI, 0.91 at PGL Bucharest 2026, 0.94 at IEM Atlanta 2026 and 0.66 at CS Asia Championships 2026.

aragornN’s numbers were more damaging. He posted a 0.97 rating at IEM Kraków Stage 1, 0.84 at IEM Kraków proper, 0.83 at RES Showdown 3, 0.91 at Parken Challenger Championship Season 1, 0.91 at HyperX Roman Imperium Cup VI and 0.81 at PGL Bucharest. MUTiRiS was always harder to judge by rating alone because his value was tied to leadership. Even then, the public numbers showed the same volatility. He had a 1.21 rating in the win over Voca at PGL Bucharest, but only 0.58 in the elimination loss to FOKUS and 0.47 in the collapse against 3DMAX. For an IGL, poor ratings can be acceptable if the team is coherent. BC.Game were not coherent enough for those trade-offs to feel justified.

Chemistry Became the Real Problem

By March, the language around the team had shifted from ambition to repair. BC.Game withdrew from ROG JOURNEY Spring to focus on fixing team chemistry. That was revealing because it confirmed what the results had already suggested. The issue was not simply that one or two players were underperforming. The team itself did not have a stable internal structure.

This is where the project began to look fundamentally flawed. MUTiRiS was the IGL on paper, but leading a roster with s1mple and electroNic was never going to be straightforward. Both players have spent years in elite environments, both are strong personalities, and both naturally carry authority inside any team they join. If the IGL is not fully empowered as the captain, then the lineup becomes tactically confused before the server even loads.

That tension was later reflected in MUTiRiS’ own explanation of the role. He said he felt like he was “more the IGL, not the captain,” a line that cuts to the heart of the project. An IGL can call rounds, but a captain shapes the team. BC.Game seemed to have one person responsible for calling, but not necessarily one person with total authority over direction.

That is rarely sustainable in Counter-Strike. Strong teams need clear hierarchy, especially when they are international, new and built around famous names. Without that clarity, bad results become harder to fix because nobody knows whether the solution is tactical, structural or political.

The VRS Asset Burned Away Quickly

The most damaging part of the BC.Game project was not only that they lost matches. It was that they lost the very thing they had effectively paid to acquire. The SAW core was valuable because it brought VRS position. Once the results declined and the roster began to fracture, that value quickly faded.

By June 1, the BC.Game roster of aragornN, electroNic, krazy, MUTiRiS and s1mple sat at global rank 103 in Valve’s standings, with a European rank of 70 and a final rank value of 1049.9. That was a dramatic fall for a project that had started the year with the advantage of an inherited core. In practical terms, the shortcut had expired.

This is the wider lesson of the story. VRS points can give a team access, but they cannot guarantee progress. If a roster does not win, the ranking position becomes a depreciating asset. Every poor result lowers the value of the original purchase. Every roster change threatens continuity. Every missed opportunity makes the next climb harder. BC.Game bought ranking momentum, but momentum only matters if a team can convert it into results. They could not.

The Benching Became Inevitable

The first major cut came after PGL Bucharest. BC.Game exited the event early with only one series win, a labored 2-1 victory over Voca, who were fielding a stand-in. MUTiRiS and aragornN were then moved to the inactive roster on April 14, ending their four-month stint in the starting lineup.

The timing made sense. By that point, the project had already failed to show meaningful progress, the chemistry questions had become public, and the individual numbers did not give BC.Game enough reason to stay patient. MUTiRiS’ leadership had not translated into a clear identity, while aragornN’s performances did not provide enough firepower to offset the team’s structural issues.

Photo Copyright by ESL

krazy lasted longer, but not much longer. On June 15, he was also benched, making him the final member of the SAW core to be moved to inactivity. He averaged a 0.93 rating across his time on the team, which shows that he was not individually disastrous. But again, BC.Game did not need “not disastrous.” They needed proof that the expensive shortcut had a future. By mid-year, there was no longer much evidence of that.

The benching of all three Portuguese players completed the collapse of the original idea. BC.Game had bought a core to build around s1mple and electroNic, but within months the entire core had been removed. At that point, the move no longer looked like an ambitious gamble. It looked like an expensive misread of what VRS value actually means.

SAW Sold High and Then Got the Story Back

The most ironic part of the saga came when SAW rebuilt around familiar Portuguese names. MUTiRiS and krazy returned to the organization, joining a new lineup that also featured João “story” Vieira, Michel “ewjerkz” Pinto and Filipe “NOPEEj” Dias. For SAW, the move restored part of the identity that had made them relevant in the first place.

The “for free” angle needs careful wording. Publicly, the safest way to frame it is that SAW brought MUTiRiS and krazy back without any publicly known major buyout, after BC.Game had already moved away from them. That alone is extraordinary when compared to the rumored multi-million package BC.Game spent to acquire the SAW core only months earlier.

From SAW’s perspective, it is hard to imagine a cleaner business cycle. They sold at a time when VRS value had inflated the price of their core. They avoided carrying the downside when the international project failed. Then they brought back familiar players once their market position had changed. That does not mean SAW planned the entire sequence, but it does show that they understood timing better than BC.Game did.

It also gave SAW a powerful narrative. The players who left for a high-profile international project returned home after the experiment collapsed. For fans, that is emotional. For the organization, it is practical. Familiar players can restore identity faster than a completely new rebuild.

Has This Happened Before?

Organizations buying cores to enter Counter-Strike quickly is not new. Teams have acquired entire lineups before, and new organizations have often tried to buy their way into relevance. What makes the BC.Game case different is the VRS layer. In the past, buying a core was mostly about talent, chemistry and brand. In the VRS era, it can also be about access.

Image Copyright by ESL

That creates a strange market. A core can become expensive not only because the players are excellent, but because their ranking position has administrative value. This can tempt organizations into moves that look logical in a spreadsheet but awkward inside the server. BC.Game’s SAW move sits exactly in that category.

There are parallels elsewhere in esports and Counter-Strike. The most recent one was Falcons buying the HEROIC core for a rumoured amount of $6 million. Buying a core can still make sense, but only if the core also fits the sporting project. If the ranking is the main attraction, the buyer may be purchasing something that can evaporate within months.

In January 2026, BC.Game reportedly spent around $2.5 million to sign SAW’s Portuguese core of MUTiRiS, krazy and aragornN, a trio sitting 22nd in Valve’s global standings.
