After the introduction of the updated trade ban system in CS2, the community noticed two strange bugs at once related to items in the inventory. The first looks loud because it creates the illusion of a skin being duplicated, but it actually disappears after entering the game. The second is much more serious: items may remain under an active trade ban until the user logs into CS2, and this is already potentially dangerous for trading infrastructure.<\/p>\n

What exactly happened after the trade ban update<\/strong><\/h2>\n

After the changes to the trade restriction system, some users noticed incorrect inventory behavior. The community describes two separate scenarios, and it is important to draw a clear line between them.<\/p>\n

In the first case, it feels as if skins have started duplicating on their own. The same item appears to be displayed twice, which immediately creates associations with duping. But in practice, this is not real duplication \u2014 after entering the game, the inventory synchronizes, and the \u201csecond\u201d item disappears.<\/p>\n

In the second scenario, the problem is less noticeable visually, but much more important functionally. There is no duplicate here, but the trade ban on the item is not removed on time and may remain until the owner launches CS2. This is exactly what makes the bug potentially more dangerous.<\/p>\n\n

The illusion of duping is loud, but not critical<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The first bug looks the most dramatic because the word \u201cdupe\u201d always causes maximum resonance in the skin economy. For many traders and regular players, the very appearance of a copied item in the inventory is already a warning signal.<\/p>\n

But in this case, it seems to be not real item multiplication, but a visual or synchronization error. In other words, the system incorrectly shows the presence of two identical skins for some time, although the inventory does not actually change. When the user enters the game, the state updates, and the \u201cextra\u201d item disappears.<\/p>\n

The second bug already affects the market<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The second problem is much more interesting. If the trade ban on an item does not disappear automatically until the user enters the game, this means the inventory status may remain outdated for some time. For an ordinary player, this is inconvenient but tolerable. For trading sites, it is already a serious risk.<\/p>\n

The entire logic of such platforms depends on accurate item data: whether it is available for trade, whether it can be accepted, and whether the transaction can be processed quickly without additional delays. If the system shows that the trade ban is still active, even though it should formally have ended, this can disrupt normal processes.<\/p>\n

    Why trading sites are the most vulnerable here<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Third-party services that work with selling, exchanging, or evaluating skins are especially sensitive to any issues connected with trade bans. If an item appears to still be locked even though it should already be available, this creates a conflict between the user\u2019s expectation and what the system sees.<\/p>\n

    Under such conditions, the site either refuses to accept the skin or is forced to wait until the user manually \u201crefreshes\u201d the status by simply entering the game. In other words, the problem may not be technically catastrophic, but it disrupts the key principle of the market \u2014 predictability.<\/p>\n

    What this says about the trade ban system itself<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Bugs like this often appear not because of one major failure, but because of changes invisible to the user in the logic of inventory updates, client synchronization, and server-side checks of item status. That is why the two described glitches look different in terms of consequences, although their source is likely connected to the same wave of changes.<\/p>\n

    The first bug shows that item display is working unstably. The second shows that the trade restriction status may also be updating differently from what users expect.
