The August VRS update became an unpleasant signal for Vitality: for the first time in two years, the team found itself outside the top 4 in the monthly ranking. The French-European roster dropped to fifth position, although for a long time it had remained one of the most stable contenders for first place.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the situation does not look critical. Vitality are still very high in the ranking and have a comfortable position for receiving invites to major tournaments. But the very fact of falling out of the top 4 shows that the team no longer has the same stable advantage it maintained during previous seasons.<\/p>\n

Vitality lost its position in the top 4<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The main detail of this update is the historical context. For Vitality, this is the first time in two years that the team is not among the four best in the monthly VRS. The last time a similar situation happened was back in August 2024, after which the roster spent a long time among the main leaders of the scene.<\/p>\n

Right now, Vitality are fifth in the Valve ranking and fourth in the world ranking. In other words, this is not a sharp collapse, but rather a loss of part of their dominance. The team still remains elite, but no longer looks as untouchable as during the periods when it consistently stayed near first place.<\/p>\n\n

Why this matters right now<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The August update carries special weight because several major tournaments will use it to hand out invites. Among them are FISSURE Playground 3, ESL Pro League Season 24, Thunderpick World Championship, and IEM Beijing. The update will also affect invitations to several second-tier tournaments that may matter in the Major race.<\/p>\n

For Vitality, this is not a problem in terms of access to events. The team is still too high to realistically worry about a spot at major tournaments. But for status, seeding, and the psychological background, this loss of positions matters. When a roster that had long been a symbol of stability drops out of the top 4, it immediately changes the tone around the team.<\/p>\n

The form no longer looks perfect<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Vitality\u2019s recent results also explain why the ranking has started to dip. In their last five matches, the team lost to Liquid, Falcons, and 9z, but defeated BetBoom and MOUZ. This stretch cannot be called a failure, but for a roster of Vitality\u2019s level, it is no longer the kind of run that allows a team to stay at the very top without problems.<\/p>\n

Over the last three months, the team\u2019s win rate stands at 54.5%. This is a decent figure for a competitive scene, but for a team used to fighting for titles, it does not look convincing enough. Especially considering that competitors at the top of the VRS continue to collect points and take advantage of every moment of instability from the leaders.<\/p>\n

The roster remains very strong<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Despite the drop in the ranking, Vitality still have a powerful foundation. ZywOo remains the roster\u2019s main individual force with a 1.32 rating, while ropz and flameZ add consistent firepower to the team. Mezii and apEX perform less flashy but important roles, and coach XTQZZZ continues working with a core that stayed at the top level for a long time.<\/p>\n

That is why the fall to fifth place does not look like the beginning of a crisis. It is more of a warning. Vitality have enough quality to quickly climb back higher, but to do that, the team needs to stabilize its results again in big matches and avoid losing points in places where it previously almost never made mistakes.<\/p>\n

The map pool also has weak spots<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The maps are also worth looking at separately. Over the last three months, Vitality have strong results on Overpass, Mirage, and Inferno, and also look solid on Nuke and Dust2. But Anubis remains a problematic map with a zero win rate over this stretch.<\/p>\n

This matters because at the top-5 level, even one weak map can have a serious impact on the veto. Opponents get a clear pressure point, while Vitality are forced either to constantly close this gap with a ban or take risks in uncomfortable series. For a team that wants to return to the VRS top 4, details like this matter a lot.<\/p>\n\n

A drop without a catastrophe<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The main conclusion from the August update is simple: Vitality still remain among the strongest teams in the world, but their position no longer looks as safe. Fifth place in the VRS<\/a> is not a failure, but for a roster with names like these, it is a clear signal that the competitors have moved closer.<\/p>\n

The team will have enough chances ahead to return to the top 4, as the next major tournaments will again provide opportunities to collect important ranking points.
