Team Liquid have found themselves in a difficult position heading into the second half of the 2026 season after failing to secure direct Valve Regional Standings (VRS) invitations to any of the next six major Counter-Strike 2 events. The North American squad will now have to rely almost entirely on qualifiers, with the Esports World Cup 2026 open qualifier representing their first major opportunity to turn things around. The situation became especially apparent after Liquid finished as runners-up at Stake Pulse Beat I, losing to Betclic in the grand final despite entering the tournament as the clear favorites.<\/p>\n

Stake Pulse Beat I took place in Stockholm from July 31 to August 5 and featured 16 teams competing for a $60,000 prize pool.<\/p>\n

Liquid began their campaign with a victory over atputies before defeating eventual champions Betclic 2-1 in the upper-bracket match. They then advanced through the playoffs with convincing 2-0 wins over 9INE in the quarter-finals and fnatic in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

However, Betclic got their revenge in the grand final, defeating Liquid 2-1 to claim the championship and the $20,000 first-place prize. Liquid finished second and earned $8,000.<\/p>\n

For a team looking to improve its VRS standing, reaching the grand final was still a positive result. However, losing to a significantly lower-ranked opponent prevented Liquid from taking full advantage of a valuable opportunity to earn ranking points.<\/p>\n\n

No direct VRS invitations to the next six major events<\/h3>\n

According to analyst statsmeister, Team Liquid did not receive direct VRS invitations to any of the next six notable tournaments.<\/p>\n

Those events include BLAST Porto 2026, StarSeries Fall 2026, FPG 3, and ESL Pro League Season 24. In addition, Liquid must qualify for Esports World Cup 2026 through the open qualifier and reach PGL Bucharest 2026 via the North American closed qualifier.<\/p>\n

As a result, Liquid have only two realistic opportunities to reach a notable event before November: successfully qualifying through the EWC 2026 open qualifier or winning the North American closed qualifier for PGL Bucharest.<\/p>\n

That makes every upcoming VRS event crucial. Liquid not only need to climb the rankings but also avoid falling into a cycle where the lack of direct invitations limits their opportunities to earn the points required for future invites.<\/p>\n

The LAN qualifier will feature 64 teams split into 16 double-elimination groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the single-elimination playoffs, where only four teams will secure spots at the $2 million main event.<\/p>\n

There is virtually no room for error. If Liquid fail to qualify for EWC, their only remaining route to a notable event before November will be the North American closed qualifier for PGL Bucharest 2026.<\/p>\n
