When Valerii \u201cb1t\u201d Vakhovskyi first appeared on Counter-Strike\u2019s biggest stages, he looked prepared for them. When Ilya \u201cm0NESY\u201d Osipov entered tier-one competition as a teenager, his mechanical talent immediately captured the attention of the entire scene. Later came Daniil \u201cheadtr1ck\u201d Valitov, Rodyon \u201cfear\u201d Smyk, Andrii \u201cnpl\u201d Kukharskyi and other players shaped inside NAVI\u2019s academy. Their stories are easy to see. They appear in transfer announcements, highlight videos and matches watched by hundreds of thousands of people. The person behind the process is much harder to notice.<\/p>\n
Amiran \u201cami\u201d Rekhviashvili did not build his reputation through viral speeches or trophies lifted in front of an arena. His most important work happened away from the stage: inside practice rooms, selection calls, demo reviews and difficult conversations with young players who possessed talent but did not yet understand what being a professional required.<\/p>\n
NAVI\u2019s academy was not successful simply because the organization found several gifted teenagers. Counter-Strike has never lacked gifted teenagers. The real achievement was creating an environment that could identify talent, understand it and prepare it for a career far more demanding than playing FACEIT every night. To understand how that system appeared, however, the story cannot begin with NAVI Junior. It has to begin with HellRaisers.<\/p>\n
Before the Academy, There Was HellRaisers<\/h3>\n
Ami\u2019s understanding of Counter-Strike did not begin from the coaching chair. Long before moving into analytics and management, he competed professionally himself.<\/p>\n
Between 2003 and 2012, Amiran played the original Counter-Strike, including periods under the nickname wizard. He represented teams such as pure Energy, eXplosive and Selectah, sharing lineups with people who would later become important figures in esports: Kyrylo \u201cANGE1\u201d Karasov became one of Ukraine\u2019s most recognizable in-game leaders, Serhii \u201clmbt\u201d Bezhanov built a successful coaching career, while Oleksii \u201cyXo\u201d Maletskyi became a prominent Ukrainian commentator and analyst.<\/p>\nPhoto Copyright by Gameinside<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
In other words, ami developed as a player alongside people who would later help shape the professional scene in different roles.<\/p>\n
That experience later became another layer of his approach to team building. Ami had already experienced competitive Counter-Strike from inside a roster before eventually viewing it through the eyes of an analyst and coach. When he returned to professional Counter-Strike in 2016, ami joined HellRaisers as an analyst, working alongside head coach Ivan \u201cJohnta\u201d Shevtsov.<\/p>\n
For more than two years, ami studied opponents, assisted with preparation and occasionally stood behind the roster when the coach was unavailable. When Johnta departed HellRaisers in December 2018, ami was promoted to head coach.<\/p>\n
His time at HellRaisers gave ami experience with an established international roster. At NAVI, however, he would face almost the opposite task: instead of working with professionals whose habits were already formed, he would help build those habits from the beginning.<\/p>\n
Building the System Outside Kyiv<\/h3>\n
In 2019, NAVI announced an experiment that looked different from the usual academy model. The organization opened applications for NAVI Esports Camp, a two-and-a-half-month programme designed to find the foundation of a future junior roster. Ami and then-sports director Andrii \u201cB1ad3\u201d Horodenskyi were placed in charge of the selection process. Around 1,900 applications were received.<\/p>\n
The candidates were compared with regional FPL databases, demos were reviewed and 25 players advanced to online testing. NAVI evaluated their communication, game sense, speed of thought, decision-making and ability to interact with teammates. A psychologist also spoke individually with the remaining candidates before the final group was selected.<\/p>\n
Only ten players were invited to the camp. They moved into a country house near Kyiv, where they would spend the summer living, training and competing together. By the end of the programme, the strongest candidates would receive contracts and become the foundation of NAVI Junior. NAVI was not simply asking who could aim better. The organization wanted to understand how each player learned, communicated, accepted criticism and behaved when his entire day was placed inside a professional structure.<\/p>\n
Life at the camp was built around a strict routine. Players woke up at 7:00, started the morning with yoga and followed a schedule that included meals, physical warm-ups, individual practice, team training, demo reviews, outdoor recovery and evening rest.<\/p>\n
The structure went beyond Counter-Strike. Players underwent medical examinations, received individual nutrition plans and worked with a psychologist and physical coaches. Ami later recalled that waking up at 7:00 for morning yoga was one of the hardest parts of the camp for him.<\/p>\n
The idea behind the routine was broader than discipline alone. NAVI wanted young players to approach esports more like professional athletes \u2014 taking care of their sleep, nutrition, physical condition and mental state alongside their in-game development.<\/p>\n
Building Professionals, Not Just Better Aim<\/h3>\n
Inside the server, the training was equally deliberate. The players worked on individual mechanics, team structures, communication and tactical understanding. Even a basic deathmatch session could be transformed into a communication drill, with players calling the positions of opponents while fighting. The purpose was not merely to make them faster.<\/p>\n
A young player can reach a high FACEIT rating through superior aim and instinct. Professional Counter-Strike requires a shared language. Information must be accurate, immediate and useful. Every player has to understand what his teammates can see, which areas are unprotected and how one movement changes the situation across the map.<\/p>\n
Ami wanted to teach the players how to think inside a system. He later explained that the camp had affected much more than their understanding of Counter-Strike. The players continued waking up on schedule, eating better, exercising and following the recommendations they had received during the summer. When discussing their progress, ami said:<\/p>\n
We showed them the right way to look at CS and big sport in general<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n
For ami, the greatest improvement was visible in how the players prioritized their lives and approached their responsibilities. The media side of the project also mattered.<\/p>\n
NAVI published interviews and vlogs showing life inside the house. The participants had to speak on camera, represent the organization and exist under public observation. They were learning that professional esports involved more than practice and official matches. The organization was not only evaluating whether these teenagers could play. It was evaluating whether they could learn how to live as players.<\/p>\n
What the Players Took with Them<\/h3>\n
The strongest evidence for an academy does not come from the people who designed its methodology. It comes from the players who lived inside it. B1t entered NAVI Esports Camp as a relatively unknown teenager and became one of the first players invited to NAVI Junior. When he later received his opportunity with the main roster, he did not speak only about aim or tactics.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve worked hard, found out a lot of new things, and learned important qualities that a professional player needs<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n
He also thanked NAVI for trusting him with the opportunity. M0NESY followed a different path. He did not participate in the original camp but joined NAVI Junior at the age of 14. His mechanics were already extraordinary, yet ami believed the teenager still needed the proper knowledge and structure before entering professional competition. When asked about ami\u2019s belief in his future, m0NESY emphasized the importance of that trust.<\/p>\n
I appreciate his trust in me. Our paths could have crossed earlier, but they have crossed now<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n
M0NESY said he was happy to begin working with him inside NAVI Junior. Headtr1ck, who joined the academy at 15, gave ami even more direct credit when his own development cycle ended.<\/p>\n

The comment came when headtr1ck was placed on the transfer list after more than two years inside NAVI\u2019s system. The wording used by the players reveals a pattern. They mention knowledge, professional qualities, belief and trust. None of those qualities can be measured through a headshot percentage, yet all of them are central to the transition from talented prospect to professional competitor.<\/p>\nPhoto Copyright by X<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Seeing the Player Behind the Statistics<\/h3>\n
That does not mean ami possessed a mystical ability to predict the future. His advantage was more practical. He had experienced Counter-Strike as a player, analyst and coach. He understood that talent does not exist separately from personality, discipline and environment. A player\u2019s statistics show what he can do under his current conditions. A scout has to imagine what he might do under better ones.<\/p>\n
Could the correct role improve his decisions? Would he accept criticism? Could he remain disciplined after initial success? Would he continue working when he was no longer the most talented player in every server? That may be the most important difference between scouting talent and developing it. Scouting ends with the signing. Development begins there.<\/p>\n
From Building Players to Building NAVI\u2019s Future<\/h3>\n
As NAVI expanded its academy structure, ami\u2019s role gradually moved beyond one roster. The organization began developing not only players but also coaches capable of continuing the same process. Responsibility for younger rosters was distributed among new specialists, while ami moved towards overseeing the wider system.<\/p>\n
In June 2022, NAVI appointed him Head of Esports. The organization directly connected the promotion to the experience and knowledge that had helped it build an academy responsible for developing b1t, m0NESY and other prospects. In the new position, ami became involved in sporting results, roster construction and the development of academy projects across different disciplines.<\/p>\n
The promotion completed a remarkable transformation. Ami entered HellRaisers as an analyst working behind the head coach. Six years later, he was helping direct the competitive structure of one of the world\u2019s most recognizable esports organizations.<\/p>\n
The scale had changed, but the central idea remained the same. Find the right people. Understand what they need. Create an environment in which their talent can survive the pressure placed upon it.<\/p>\nPhoto Copyright by X<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
What Ami Actually Built<\/h3>\n
Those names prove that the system produced results. But its deeper achievement was cultural. Ami helped combine scouting, sports psychology, physical preparation, nutrition and structured practice into one development pipeline.<\/p>\n
The system was not flawless, and it did not turn every prospect into a champion. What it gave NAVI was something more valuable than FACEIT statistics: an understanding of each player\u2019s habits, personality, weaknesses and long-term potential. That is the hidden value of a real academy. It does not merely produce players. It produces understanding.<\/p>\n
The Man Behind the Process<\/h3>\n
There is no single highlight that captures that ability. It exists across years of smaller decisions: selecting ten teenagers from almost two thousand applicants, teaching players to communicate during basic drills, introducing them to professional routines, trusting future stars before the rest of the scene recognized them and accepting that development sometimes means allowing a player to leave. The most visible people in Counter-Strike create moments. People like ami create the conditions in which those moments become possible.<\/p>\n
That may be why his influence is so easy to underestimate. A player\u2019s legacy can be replayed in a fragmovie. A system builder\u2019s legacy is scattered across the careers of other people.<\/p>\n
Every time another NAVI academy graduate steps onto a major stage, a small part of the original camp walks out with him: the early mornings, the yoga sessions, the psychological work, the repeated callouts, the difficult feedback and the belief that a gifted teenager should be developed as both a player and a person.
