On the 9th of July, 2026, Team Liquid announced the signing of their new AWP candidate. After fielding Roland \u2018ultimate\u2019 Tomkowiak for the last two years, and going through names like Casper \u2018cadiaN\u2019 M\u00f8ller, and Josh \u2018oSee\u2019 Ohm before that, Liquid have struggled to land a consistent AWP-ing presence as one of the few teams that have rarely had a true superstar wielding the most expensive gun in the game.<\/p>\n
Now that burden falls on 17-year-old Bulgarian prodigy \u2013 Georgi \u2018Jorko\u2019 Mitev, whose signing feels like an attempt to recreate what ex-IGL & coach duo \u2013 Russel \u2018Twistzz\u2019 Van Dulken and Damian \u2018daps\u2019 Steele, were striving to achieve two years ago by looking for a gem in the European Tier 2\/3 scene by approaching the, at the time, 20-year-old ultimate.<\/p>\n
As of today, the ex-FOKUS & MOUZ NXT man stands to attempt succeeding where many of his predecessors did, but does he have the right tools, knowledge, skill, dedication, and potential to do so, and where does he come from? \u2013 These are the questions that will be answered in this article.<\/p>\nPhoto Copyright by ESL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Early career & idols:<\/h3>\n
Born in Bulgaria, but raised in Scotland, Georgi Mitev started playing Counter-Strike at the age of 12, in the year of 2020, with his first wave of inspiration coming from ex-CS:GO professional player for Cloud9 \u2013 Mike \u2018Shroud\u2019 Grezesiek. Precisely the Canadian is the person who lights the spark, making the youngster fall in love with Counter-Strike and commit to the decision of pursuing a career as a player.<\/p>\n
When I was 13 years old, my dad, who used to be a CS 1.6 player, and has always supported my career and development, got me my first PC. I started streaming so I could track and showcase my development and potential to everyone, Jorko via \u201cTEDD TALK\u201d on YouTube.<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n
Outside of the influence of people like shroud, Jorko got an immense amount of support from his father, whose advice, and direct involvement with the young man\u2019s CS routine and development as a player was fundamental in his first years of play.<\/p>\n
However, being an AWP-er, Jorko was heavily influenced by 1x Major champion and MVP, French legend, and five-time HLTV Top 20 player \u2013 Kenny \u2018kennyS\u2019 Schrub, as well as one of the greatest players to ever touch Counter-Strike, and the appointed by many as \u201cThe GOAT of CS:GO\u201d \u2013 Oleksandr \u2018s1mple\u2019 Kostyliev.<\/p>\n
Inspired by two of the biggest superstars the AWP has ever seen, the youngster tried to implement the same level of confidence, flashiness, and impudence \u2013 playing the game like there is no one better on the server, and like every move would work, since he is the one making it.<\/p>\nPhoto Copyright by ESL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
MOUZ NXT<\/h3>\n
After spending 8 months on a Bulgarian mix-team that went by the name of Quixal, partnering up with players like Duplicate, milky & shaiK, Jorko\u2019s first big shot came around in the form of a MOUZ NXT contract. At this point and time, quitting school was mandatory, and regardless of being just 15 years of age, the teenager was already fully dedicated to pursuing his professional aspirations.<\/p>\n
At MOUZ\u2019s academy, the Bulgarian partnered up with players like Old\u0159ich \u2018PR\u2019 Nov\u00fd and Adrian \u2018xelex\u2019 Vincze, and got to experience a very challenging transition for every young player \u2013 the one of becoming an In-game-leader. During his 6-month-long-stint on the team he played merely two official maps on HLTV, but got to develop his vision for the game, seeing the server from the perspective of a captain, an experience, which the youngster cherishes deeply, and would definitely want to re-live later on in his career.<\/p>\n
Being an IGL is definitely something I\u2019d do in the future, but towards the end of my career. Being a dedicated AWP-er is much more fun at the time, and allows me to focus solely on my own game, Jorko via \u201cTEDD TALK\u201d on YouTube.<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n
FOKUS<\/h3>\n
After MOUZ NXT, Jorko became part of CPH Wolves\u2019s attempted re-entry into Counter-Strike. Overshadowed by a plentitude of roster changes, the roster was able to post some respectful results, and the Bulgarian was at the center of them, posting a 1.10 rating over 132 maps, and a +1.38% SWING, but what deserved the spotlight the most was his 1.18 rated presence on the CT-side. There are two main types of pure AWP-ers \u2013 the ones who operate better in the clutch, and are much more comfortable with setting up their teammates, as well as holding angles and punishing their opponents\u2019 mistakes, and the ones who would rather initiate, make moves, and control the game around themselves \u2013 taking bigger responsibility, and putting their own name on the line.<\/p>\n
If we had to put Jorko in a category \u2013 he would definitely fall into the latter. His capability of being a brave, game-changing player, was what got him his first big opportunity of breaking into Tier 2 \u2013 FOKUS Clan. Surrounded by names like Banjo, volt, Matheos, and under the leadership of Erik \u2018ztr\u2019 Gustafsson, and Jakub \u2018kuben\u2019 Gurczy\u0144ski, the Balkan got the opportunity to showcase what he could do in a more stable environment, and he did have his moments, posting respectful ratings at events such as the Urban Riga Open 3, Lorgar Rankings Season 1, and the BC Game Masters Championship, while also making his Tier 1 debut at the PGL Bucharest 2026, where FOKUS were one win away from making the playoffs, and Jorko was one of the most impressive players during the two wins against 3DMAX and BC.Game.<\/p>\n
However, his time on FOKUS did not seem to showcase the archetype of the player Jorko wants to be. Playing under a very strict system, with an IGL and rifles who would require a lot of space to operate, Jorko was entrusted with the role of being the main support piece on the team\u2019s T-sides, which developed his skills of creating opportunities and space for his teammates, as well as his clutching ability, as he would often find himself in 1vX or 2vX situations in the later stages of the rounds.<\/p>\n
His CT-side potential was always on show, but it still felt like the youngster needed a little bit more space, in order to become his best version on the server, and what happened next, might\u2019ve guaranteed that space.<\/p>\n
Will he make it on the big stage?<\/h3>\n
On the 9th of July, 2026, Team Liquid announced the signing of their new AWP candidate. Following the steps of Tsvetelin \u2018CeRq\u2019 Dimitrov, Valentin \u2018poizon\u2019 Vasilev, and Alex \u2018Rainwaker\u2019 Petrov, Jorko became the fourth Bulgarian player to ever touch Tier 1 Counter-Strike.<\/p>\n
Liquid\u2019s efforts of finding the right piece for the AWP role have been ones of massive pains, but with the addition of South African In-game-leader \u2013 Johnny \u2018JT\u2019 Theodosiou, the Dutch organization might finally be on the right path to building a system, which would allow all its pieces to shine in the best way possible.<\/p>\n
After 23 maps of play with their new roster, Team Liquid have shown some promising results, namely taking down Team Vitality and G2 Esports, making it into the LAN finals of their first event \u2013 BLAST Bounty S2 2026, but also some shaky ones, after failing to lift the Stake Pulse Bet 1 trophy, and not making it out of the EWC 2026 Open Qualifier. However, Jorko\u2019s performance is definitely showing a lot of promise.<\/p>\n
Being the second highest-rated player on his team since the start of the season, with an established CT\/T-side balance, the Bulgarian is looking more comfortable than ever playing off of veterans like ELiGE & JT as they are making their moves on both the CT & T-side.<\/p>\n
I\u2019d say I\u2019ve been talking and playing with JT & ELiGE the most. Even before the announcement came through. I probably speak most to ELiGE (Jon), we are constantly playing, talking about the game, and he is pushing me to take more initiative, call for my own plays, and take responsibility, Jorko Jorko via \u201cTEDD TALK\u201d on YouTube.<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n
At 17 years of age, Jorko is far from a complete player, but under the guidance of ELiGE & JT, and with a team Liquid that seems to have revamped its atmosphere and rediscovered its direction, the flamboyant and emotional Bulgarian might\u2019ve found himself right where he needs to be.<\/p>\nPhoto Copyright by ESL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Mechanically skilled, with the experience of leading a team, with no language barrier, eager to learn, listen, motivated to take initiative, and possessing of the quality of taking over the server under the right circumstances, Jorko looks like a player who\u2019s got all the right tools to succeed and become the next big thing.<\/p>\n
And with the improved performance of ELiGE, as well as the presence of malbsMd, under the guidance of JT, flashie and NAF, the young Bulgarian\u2019s surroundings might be just what the doctor ordered for a player who wants to be under the spotlight, but has also realized the importance of letting everyone around him shine.<\/p>\n
With that being said, this article\u2019s author has made up his mind. Jorko\u2019s got all the right tools to succeed, and looks like one of the legitimate candidates to become part of the next generation of AWP superstars alongside pieces like JBOEN.
