That frequency alone sets this apart from a routine business adjustment.<\/p>\n<h2>Where CS2 Fits Into the Picture<\/h2>\n<p>Team Liquid\u2019s current CS2 lineup includes NAF, EliGE, malbsMd, and JT, with Jorko rotating in and Flashie serving as head coach. That roster has kept the org competitive throughout 2026, including runs at IEM Cologne and the Esports World Cup qualifiers.<\/p>\n<p>Still, results at the biggest stage haven\u2019t matched the hype. At the 2025 Esports World Cup, Liquid\u2019s CS2 team lost to Vitality in the Round of 16 and finished in the 9th-16th tier, taking home just $20,000. In 2026, the CS2 squad exited even earlier, falling 2-1 to 1w Team in the Round of 32 of Last Chance qualifier to Esports World Cup 2026. Neither run moved the needle much for a club chasing bigger payouts elsewhere.<\/p>\n<h2>Tournament Winnings Fell Sharply<\/h2>\n<p>A year ago, Team Liquid walked away from the Esports World Cup with a $5 million club championship prize. This year told a different story. The organisation slipped to 5th place at the 2026 EWC Club Championship, dropping three spots and collecting just $2 million, a $3 million shortfall compared to 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Money lost from lower prize finishes is only part of the picture, though. Back in May 2025, Team Liquid\u2019s long-running partnership with Honda came to an abrupt end. The trigger was a controversial social media post made by a player on the org\u2019s Rainbow Six Siege roster. Sources describe that moment as a genuine breaking point, one that set off a stretch of instability the organisation has struggled to shake since. People close to the situation say the memory of that fallout still lingers uncomfortably among both current staff and people who have since left.<\/p>\n<h2>Who Gets Hit, and When<\/h2>\n<p>Nobody outside the company knows the exact scale of this latest round. Many contracts are set to lapse at the end of September anyway. That timing muddies any count of jobs truly eliminated versus contracts simply left unrenewed.<\/p>\n<p>Staff learned of the decision on Wednesday, August 26. Internal communications mentioned a support package for those affected. Contractors and employees with expiring contracts, however, will reportedly receive pay only for hours already logged.
