Valve\u2019s official update notes confirmed a new setting called ammo_grenade_limit_total. This setting now enforces the total number of grenades a player can buy in a round. The update listed this change alongside other gameplay tweaks, including adjustments to reloading and sniper un-scoping sounds. However, the notes did not spell out the practical, in-game effects of the grenade limit. That is where Ozzny\u2019s breakdown helped. It clarified exactly how the cap works during a match.<\/p>\n

What Changed<\/h2>\n

According to Ozzny, players can now buy a maximum of four utility items per round. This cap changes a few common buying patterns.<\/p>\n

First, players can no longer buy an extra flashbang to drop for a teammate after already buying four grenades. Previously, players used this method to top up a teammate\u2019s utility without buying a fifth grenade for themselves.<\/p>\n

Second, players can no longer buy a full utility set, throw a smoke grenade, then return to spawn to buy an additional flashbang later in the round. Once a player buys four items, they cannot buy more utility that round. This applies even if they have already thrown some of it.<\/p>\n

There is one exception. If a player survives the previous round with utility still in hand, they can still buy and drop a flashbang for a teammate. They can then buy a replacement flashbang for themselves. In this case, players can still carry a maximum of two flashbangs, even with unused inventory from the previous round.<\/p>\n
