Marco \u201cSnappi\u201d Pfeiffer spoke on the Snake and Banter<\/a> podcast about the current practice environment in Counter-Strike 2, arguing that full access to practice demos makes it too easy for teams to copy tactics and utility. He believes Valve should change the demo system so teams can only review their own side of practice matches.<\/p>\n

Snappi said the current setup has changed how teams approach scrims and made them more careful about revealing new ideas before official matches.<\/p>\n\n

Full practice demos make new ideas easier to copy<\/h2>\n

According to Snappi, analytical platforms such as Skybox Edge allow teams to review practice matches from the opponent\u2019s perspective, including utility usage, positioning and tactical setups.<\/p>\n

He believes that level of access has reduced the value of developing new ideas during practice because anything shown against another team can potentially be studied and reproduced before it appears in an official match.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt ruined innovation to a certain degree. Nowadays, if you have a cool trick, you run it once in practice and it\u2019s copied.\u201d<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n

Snappi contrasted the current situation with the CS era, when technical limitations made it more difficult to access every detail from an opponent\u2019s side during practice.<\/p>\n

Teams have to think about potential demo leaks<\/h2>\n

The availability of complete practice data also affects how teams choose their practice partners.<\/p>\n

Snappi explained that teams may need to consider whether a scrim demo could eventually reach an upcoming opponent. That can lead teams to avoid showing new strategies against stronger practice partners and save certain ideas for official matches.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou get paranoid these days. Essentially half the time you actually need to sit and be a little bit of an investigator to check if there\u2019s a chance that the enemy team might leak that demo to the team that you are potentially playing in an official.\u201d<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n

The issue creates an additional layer of preparation outside the server, with coaching staffs and in-game leaders having to consider not only who they practice against but also who may gain access to the resulting demos.<\/p>\n

Snappi wants Valve to limit demo visibility<\/h2>\n

Snappi believes the solution should come from Valve.<\/p>\n

Instead of removing practice demos entirely, he suggested restricting them so each team can only see its own players, utility and movements when reviewing a scrim.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it would be better if you were only able to see what you\u2019re doing in the demos and not what the enemy is doing in the demos.\u201d<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n

Such a change would still allow teams to review their own practice while preventing opponents from using the same files to examine every new setup or tactical detail.<\/p>\n\n

Skybox says Valve controls the demo format<\/h2>\n

Skybox Technologies founder Anders Blume also addressed the discussion. He said the company is proud that Skybox Edge gives more teams access to analytical tools that were previously available mainly to organizations with larger budgets.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Blume said the underlying CS2 demo format is controlled by Valve and that Skybox had already discussed the issue with the developer after the release of the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegarding the demo format itself, Valve is responsible for the change between CS and CS2, so it\u2019s a problem only they can solve on their end, which we also discussed with them when CS2 was released.\u201d<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n
