FURIA continue to sit just below the absolute elite. They finished third at StarSeries after beating MIBR and MOUZ, but Vitality defeated them 2-0 twice during the same tournament. One important experiment has ended, with FalleN taking back the main calling duties after YEKINDAR briefly tested himself as an IGL. That should simplify the roles and allow YEKINDAR to focus on the aggressive game that made him so important to FURIA.

Aurora’s new lineup has progressed faster than expected. They reached the StarSeries final after beating NAVI, NRG and Vitality before losing the rematch against Vitality in the title series. XANTARES and woxic already look capable of carrying this team deep into events. Another strong run in Katowice would make it increasingly difficult to dismiss Barcelona as simply one good tournament.

B Tier

On results alone, Legacy would belong higher. They finished third at the Esports World Cup before winning FISSURE Playground 3 without losing a series, including a 3-0 victory over G2 in the final. The problem is that they will play EPL without arT, who is sidelined after contracting meningitis. Analyst bobz will stand in, leaving Legacy without the captain and in-game leader behind much of their recent success. The firepower remains, but the structure becomes a major question.

NAVI enter EPL under considerably more pressure than usual. Their second half of the season has included early exits at BLAST Open Porto and StarSeries, with defeats to teams they would normally expect to beat consistently. More importantly, their position in the European VRS race means results in Katowice carry consequences beyond the tournament itself. With the Singapore Major invitation cutoff approaching, NAVI need points and they need them now.

BETBOOM quietly put together an impressive run at FISSURE Playground 3, beating BIG, Astralis and MIBR before losing to G2 in the semi-finals. Their best level is clearly enough to threaten playoff teams. The issue is producing it consistently, which makes them particularly dangerous in a Swiss format where one strong week can quickly turn into a deep run.

9z have lost some of the momentum they built earlier in the summer. Their XSE Pro League Guangzhou title showed what this roster can do, but recent appearances at BLAST Open Porto and FISSURE Playground 3 ended much earlier. There is enough individual quality to make them dangerous, but they need to rediscover the confidence and consistency that defined their best period.

PARIVISION arrive with another roster change after bringing HObbit into the lineup. His experience should add stability around FL1T and the rest of a roster that has often shown promising stretches without turning them into deep international runs. EPL comes very early in this version of the team’s development, although their opener against a weakened Legacy gives them an immediate opportunity.

M80 have played plenty of Counter-Strike recently and have enough structure to punish opponents who arrive below their best. Their problem remains the step up against stronger European teams, where the difference in individual quality has often become visible. They are capable of making the Swiss stage uncomfortable, but reaching three wins would require at least one significant upset.

1win have produced respectable tier-two results, including recent victories over NIP and B8, but EPL represents a completely different level of opposition. They have enough quality to punish mistakes, although consistently winning BO3s against the teams above them would be a major step forward.

TYLOO remain one of Asia’s strongest sides and continue to collect regional qualification spots, but their international results still lag behind their domestic dominance. Their fundamentals are good enough to make individual maps competitive, but translating that into repeated series wins against elite European opposition remains the challenge.

For ShindeN, reaching EPL is already a major achievement. Winning ESL Challenger League Season 51 South America secured their first major international LAN appearance. Their opening match against Spirit could hardly be more difficult, but expectations are minimal. For a team with almost no experience at this level, every series in Katowice is valuable.

ESL Pro League Season 24 comes at a particularly important point in the season. There is a $1 million prize pool and a trophy at the Spodek, but the upcoming Singapore Major invitation cutoff gives the event additional weight.

NAVI are the clearest example. Their poor second half has dragged them into a position where every meaningful VRS result matters. Legacy must prove they can survive without arT, while teams further down the rankings have one of their final opportunities to produce a run capable of changing their Major position.

At the top, the questions are different. Spirit can further establish themselves as the team everyone else is chasing, Vitality can prove their StarSeries victory was the start of another strong period, and Falcons return after a long competitive break. MOUZ need to recover from Barcelona, while Aurora have a chance to confirm that their rapid improvement is sustainable.

For some teams, EPL is another opportunity to win a major trophy. For others, what happens in Katowice could define the rest of their 2026 season.

ESL Pro League Season 24 brings 16 teams to Katowice from October 3-11, with $1 million on the line and the final three days taking place inside the Spodek Arena.
