Valve has introduced a new restriction on regional assignments in the Valve Regional Standings, closing the possibility for rosters to quickly switch regions ahead of a Major invitation cutoff. Under the updated rule, a roster cannot receive a Regional Assignment if it appeared in another region’s VRS list during the previous three calendar months.

The change directly affects BC.Game and Sashi, who recently used or planned roster changes to move from Europe into the Asian VRS ahead of PGL Singapore Major 2026.

Valve add three-month restriction to Regional Assignment

The new line was added to the Roster Regional Assignment section of Valve’s Major Supplemental Rulebook:

“A roster is only eligible for a Regional Assignment if they did not appear in any other region’s VRS list in the preceding three calendar months.”

The VRS is divided into Europe, Americas and Asia, with the regional lists used to determine Major invitations. A roster’s region is otherwise determined by the region represented by the majority of its players.

The new restriction prevents teams from appearing in one regional ranking and then quickly moving into another shortly before the Major cutoff.

BC.Game lose their Asian route to the Major

BC.Game had already completed their switch from Europe to Asia after signing Tyson “asap” Paterson.

With asap joining Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold and Ayush “mzinho” Batbold, BC.Game had three players assigned to the Asian region. The team then completed five VRS-ranked matches at ROG JOURNEY Autumn 2026, which allowed the new roster to appear in the Asian standings.

The move immediately put BC.Game near the top of the regional ranking. On October 6, they sit second in Asia with 1,307 VRS points, behind TYLOO and ahead of The MongolZ.

Before the rule change, their position would have placed them firmly in contention for an Asian invitation to PGL Singapore Major 2026.

However, BC.Game also appeared in the European VRS during the previous three calendar months. Under the new rule, the roster is therefore no longer eligible to use the recent switch to receive an Asian Regional Assignment for the Major invitation process.

Sashi’s planned move to Asia is also blocked

Sashi attempted a similar strategy on October 5 by temporarily adding Australian players Tynan “TjP” Purtell and Jordan “Hatz” Bajic.

Together with Anton “Anlelele” Huynh, who has Vietnamese citizenship, the changes would give Sashi three players from the Asian region and allow the roster to move from the European VRS into Asia.

The organization made the changes during the final month before the Singapore Major invitation cutoff, with Mikkel “MistR” Thomsen and Casper “Cabbi” Jensen stepping out of the starting lineup.

Sashi had also appeared in the European VRS within the previous three months, meaning the new restriction prevents the roster from immediately receiving an Asian Regional Assignment.

Valve close the late region-switch route before Singapore Major

The rule change removes the possibility of using a late roster move to immediately enter another regional Major race while carrying an existing VRS position.

BC.Game had already completed the process and reached second place in Asia, while Sashi were preparing to follow the same path. Both now fall under the new three-month restriction.

Valve has not yet clarified how affected rosters will be listed after losing eligibility for their new Regional Assignment. The rule establishes that they cannot immediately receive an assignment in another region, but does not separately explain whether teams such as BC.Game and Sashi will return to the European list for the Singapore Major qualification process.

The final VRS ranking used for PGL Singapore Major 2026 invitations is scheduled for November 2.
