From October 14 to 18, eight teams will compete at the Thunderpick World Championship 2026 in Malta, fighting for a share of the $1 million prize pool. With Vitality, Spirit, and MOUZ absent, the tournament offers a rare opportunity for other teams to claim a major trophy. Aurora arrive after finishing third at ESL Pro League Season 24, Falcons are looking to turn their individual firepower into another title, while FURIA return as defending champions. But with only four playoff spots available, even the favorites cannot afford a slow start.<\/p>\n
Format & Prize Pool<\/h3>\n
Thunderpick World Championship 2026 will take place at BLAST Arena Studios in Malta, featuring two groups of four teams. The group stage follows a GSL double-elimination format, with all matches played as best-of-three series. The top two teams from each group advance to the single-elimination playoffs, where the semifinals and third-place match are also BO3, while the grand final will be a BO5.<\/p>\n
The $1 million prize pool is split between player winnings and club shares, with the champions earning $500,000 in total and the runners-up receiving $250,000. The groups are divided as follows:<\/p>\n
\n
Group A: Falcons, Aurora, 9z, Ninjas in Pyjamas<\/li>\n
Group B: FURIA, Legacy, BETBOOM, PARIVISION<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Ninjas in Pyjamas were a late addition to the tournament, replacing Virtus.pro after the organization withdrew due to visa and health-related issues.<\/p>\n
S-Tier \u2014 Aurora, Falcons<\/h3>\n
Aurora and Falcons are the two strongest title contenders, although they enter the tournament with very different momentum. Aurora have just finished third at ESL Pro League Season 24, defeating FURIA, 1win, and Spirit during their run. They also pushed Vitality to three maps in the semifinals, showing that their recent improvement is more than a temporary rise in form. Falcons, meanwhile, reached the EPL quarterfinals before suffering a disappointing 0-2 defeat to Spirit. Their roster has enough individual quality to win this tournament, but consistency remains a concern. Interestingly, Falcons defeated Aurora 2-0 in Katowice, giving them a psychological advantage if the teams meet again. Both are expected to reach the playoffs, but Aurora look slightly more convincing based on their latest performances.<\/p>\n
A-Tier \u2014 FURIA, 9z<\/h3>\n
FURIA and 9z represent two different stages of South American Counter-Strike. FURIA return as defending Thunderpick champions, having completed a reverse sweep against NAVI in last year\u2019s grand final. Their recent EPL campaign was less impressive, ending with a quarterfinal defeat to MOUZ, but victories over BETBOOM, PARIVISION, and 9z showed that they remain a serious threat to most teams in Malta. For 9z, the tournament offers another opportunity to demonstrate their progress throughout 2026. The Argentine organization have climbed from relative outsiders into regular international competition, although their EPL performance exposed some limitations. They defeated TYLOO and BETBOOM but lost all three matches against Aurora, NAVI, and FURIA without winning a map. B-Tier \u2014 Legacy, Ninjas in Pyjamas, BETBOOM<\/h3>\n
Legacy, NIP, and BETBOOM enter Thunderpick with different problems to solve. Legacy\u2019s latest EPL campaign ended with just one victory, although they were forced to compete without in-game leader arT, who missed the tournament while recovering from meningitis. His return should improve their structure and communication, making the Brazilians a more dangerous opponent than their recent results suggest. NIP, meanwhile, received a late invitation after Virtus.pro withdrew, giving them an unexpected opportunity to compete against stronger opposition. Their opening match against Falcons will immediately test whether they can challenge the favorites. BETBOOM also need to recover from a disappointing EPL, where they finished with a 1-3 record and lost to three teams participating in Malta: FURIA, Aurora, and 9z. All three sides have the potential to reach the playoffs, but none have shown enough consistency recently to be considered genuine title contenders.<\/p>\n
C-Tier \u2014 PARIVISION<\/h3>\n
PARIVISION enter the tournament as the lowest team in our tier list, although their recent results make them an unpredictable opponent. The team reached the ESL Pro League quarterfinals after defeating both G2 and NAVI, but also suffered defeats against Spirit, FURIA, and eventual champions Vitality. Their lineup is still adapting following the addition of HObbit in September, and the lack of time together remains an important concern. While PARIVISION have already shown that they can upset stronger opponents, maintaining that level across several matches is a different challenge. Their opening game against Legacy provides an opportunity to repeat their EPL victory over the Brazilians, but with FURIA and BETBOOM also in Group B, qualification is far from guaranteed.<\/p>\n
Why Thunderpick World Championship 2026 Matters<\/h3>\n
Thunderpick World Championship 2026 arrives at an important moment in the season. With the Singapore Major approaching and the November 2 VRS invitation cutoff getting closer, every result could influence the teams\u2019 opportunities in the final months of the year. The tournament also provides one of the few remaining chances to secure a major international trophy without facing the entire elite of Counter-Strike. Aurora can finally turn their recent deep runs into a championship, Falcons have an opportunity to answer criticism following another playoff exit, and FURIA will attempt to defend their title. For teams such as 9z, NIP, and BETBOOM, a strong result could be just as important for their confidence and ranking.
