Esports World Cup 2026 is gradually turning into one of the main tournaments of the second half of the season. The tournament will take place in Paris from August 12 to 23, feature 32 teams, and have a $2,000,000 prize pool.

The participant list already shows that the competition will be extremely tight: it includes the main favorites of the season, stable second-tier teams, and rosters that can become unpleasant opponents in individual matches.

A tournament with a very strong field

The format of EWC 2026 makes the start of the tournament especially important. First, teams will go through the group stage, after which the strongest will advance to the playoffs with a single-elimination bracket. This means that even the favorites will not have much room for mistakes.

Among the confirmed teams are Falcons, Vitality, Spirit, FURIA, Natus Vincere, 9z, Aurora, G2, BetBoom, MOUZ, Legacy, FUT, B8, PARIVISION, GamerLegion, The MongolZ, FaZe, Astralis, TYLOO, paiN, MIBR, magic, Luminosity, M80, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Lynn Vision, 3DMAX, and Wildcard. A few more slots still have to finalize the full list of 32 participants.

S-tier: the main title contenders

Falcons, Vitality, Spirit, FURIA, and Natus Vincere can be placed in the S-tier. These are teams entering the tournament not just as playoff participants, but as rosters expected to make at least a deep run.

Falcons have the strongest position in terms of status and roster, Vitality are always dangerous thanks to their individual quality, and Spirit remain a team that can break any bracket through tempo and firepower. FURIA and Natus Vincere look slightly less safe, but their level is still high enough to realistically fight for the final.

A-tier: teams that can break predictions

9z, Aurora, G2, BetBoom, MOUZ, Legacy, The MongolZ, and FaZe should be placed in the A-tier. These are not necessarily the main favorites of the entire tournament, but each of these teams has enough arguments to eliminate an S-tier opponent in a single series.

9z have recently shown very strong progress and no longer look like just a dark horse. Aurora, G2, and MOUZ are dangerous because of their individual level, BetBoom and Legacy can create chaos in matches against stronger opponents, while The MongolZ and FaZe have experience at big LAN tournaments, which often becomes decisive specifically in the playoffs.

B-tier: stable mid-table teams with a chance to break through

FUT, B8, PARIVISION, GamerLegion, Astralis, TYLOO, paiN, and MIBR logically belong in the B-tier. These teams are unlikely to be the main favorites before the start, but they definitely cannot be treated as easy opponents.

PARIVISION, B8, and GamerLegion can be especially dangerous in matches where the opponent underestimates their structure or tempo. Astralis, TYLOO, paiN, and MIBR have enough experience and regional strength to get through the group, but to fight for the title, they need to show a level higher than usual.

C-tier: underdogs looking for their chance

magic, Luminosity, M80, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Lynn Vision, 3DMAX, and Wildcard can be placed in the C-tier. For these teams, the main goal at the start is not necessarily to fight for the title, but to get out of the group and beat at least one opponent with higher status.

M80, Lynn Vision, and Wildcard can use the underestimation factor, especially if they get a favorable matchup. Ninjas in Pyjamas, 3DMAX, Luminosity, and magic have certain strengths, but it will be difficult for them to maintain stability against teams from the upper tiers throughout the entire tournament.

The main intrigue is the density between A and B-tier

The most interesting thing about this list is that the line between A and B-tier is very thin. Many teams from the middle of the list can look completely different depending on form, map, and specific opponent.

That is why EWC 2026 may produce many unexpected results already in the group stage. If the favorites are not ready from the very first matches, teams such as 9z, BetBoom, PARIVISION, B8, or GamerLegion may absolutely take advantage of the opportunity.

A tournament without obviously easy matches

Esports World Cup 2026 looks like a tournament where even the lower part of the participant list can create problems for the favorites. The S-tier carries the highest expectations, but the A-tier looks strong enough to make the playoffs very unpredictable.

The main conclusion is simple: there will not be many easy matches in Paris. Falcons, Vitality, Spirit, FURIA, and Natus Vincere enter as the main contenders, but the density of the field is so high that the road to the title will definitely not be straightforward.
