Valve have released a new Counter-Strike 2 update focused primarily on the crosshair system, according to the official patch notes. The download is around 700 MB and introduces the new Static Quadrant style, customizable outline colors and grenade crosshairs that can now be activated during freeze time for instant smoke lineups.
The patch also includes another round of clipping fixes for Rush maps.
UPDATE: Valve temporarily rolled back the latest CS2 update after players began experiencing launch crashes. Matchmaking was also briefly unavailable after the rollback, but the issue has since been fixed and the game has returned to the previous working build.
Crosshair system gets more customization
Valve fixed the visualization of weapon inaccuracy and spread and added a separate option for changing the color of the crosshair outline.
The update also introduces a new crosshair style called Static Quadrant. It follows the Static Square style added in an earlier patch as Valve continues expanding the crosshair overhaul introduced after Rush Hour.
Several smaller settings were also changed:
- Negative gap values are now available for the Classic Dynamic style.
- Classic Dynamic alpha can now be adjusted in 0.01 increments.
- Scope dot scale and color preferences are now included in the new crosshair share code.
- Valve changed the share code format to accommodate the additional crosshair settings.
The recent crosshair rework had already moved thickness, length and gap measurements to a pixel-based system and introduced new static and dynamic options.
Grenade crosshairs now work during freeze time
One of the most practical additions affects grenade lineups at the start of rounds.
Grenade crosshairs can now be displayed during freeze time by holding any grenade attack button. Valve specifically described the change as support for insta-smokes, allowing players to prepare precise opening utility before the round begins.
Previously, the grenade crosshair could not be activated until freeze time ended.
Rush receives more clipping fixes
The update also addresses various clipping issues across Rush maps. No new balance changes for the 3v3 mode were included in this patch.
Rush has received several smaller fixes since its release, with Valve repeatedly adjusting map geometry alongside updates to the new crosshair and gameplay systems.
