dupreeh on karrigan: “He Can Make Teams Stronger Immediately”

Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen believes Finn “karrigan” Andersen has a rare ability to join a roster and make it stronger almost immediately. Speaking on Radar em Paris by Dust2 Brasil, the five-time Major winner compared karrigan with Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire, three IGLs he worked with during different stages of his career.

dupreeh highlighted how differently the three captains approached leadership. He praised karrigan for sacrificing his own individual level to improve the players around him, called gla1ve the best captain he ever played with and described the emotions of apEX as both a strength and a potential weakness.

karrigan can make a roster stronger immediately

dupreeh played alongside karrigan during the TSM and early Astralis years. Looking back, he described the current Falcons captain as a natural leader who understands how to give players the space they need.

He had a special approach to the game compared to what we were used to. I still think that’s why he’s so good at joining teams and making them stronger immediately.

The individual numbers of karrigan are secondary in that approach. According to dupreeh, the IGL is willing to sacrifice his own performance if doing so can improve the level of the other four players.

If I can make this team play 10% better, we’re going to win trophies. I might suffer individually, but I’m willing to do that.

That ability to quickly improve new lineups has followed karrigan throughout his career, with dupreeh pointing to how well he understands the strengths of the players around him.

gla1ve was the best captain dupreeh played with

Despite the praise for karrigan, dupreeh gave the strongest personal endorsement to gla1ve. The two were part of the Astralis lineup that won four Majors together and built one of the most successful periods in Counter-Strike history.

dupreeh particularly highlighted the ability of gla1ve to read rounds and create solutions in situations where little appeared available.

He was amazing in the mid-round, he could create rounds out of nothing.

For dupreeh, the value of gla1ve was not simply measured by kills. He praised his positioning, understanding of game mechanics and ability to find unconventional solutions, including the smoke plays that became closely associated with the Astralis era.

He was a phenomenal captain — the best captain I’ve ever played with.

apEX emotions can be both a strength and weakness

dupreeh later played under apEX in Vitality, winning the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 together. He sees similarities between apEX and gla1ve, particularly in mid-round calling and the ability to understand how different players should be used.

The biggest difference, according to dupreeh, is emotion.

The only downside of apEX, in my opinion, is his emotions.

dupreeh said those emotions are also a major part of what makes apEX effective. His shouting, passion and visible reactions can give energy to the roster, but frustration can occasionally push him toward unusual decisions when a match is not going as planned.

At the same time, dupreeh praised apEX for listening to his teammates, simplifying mid-round instructions and continuing to develop as a leader.

He’s really good at listening to his players and figuring out how he can use each one of them, just like karrigan.

dupreeh ultimately described the trio as three very different personalities who reached the top through different approaches to leadership. His comments also sparked discussion among CS2 fans, with players debating the strengths of the three IGL styles and the role that the emotional approach of apEX plays inside Vitality.
