FURIA defeated Aurora 2-1 in the Round of 16 of the Esports World Cup 2026 playoffs. The Brazilian side recovered after losing Nuke and closed the series on Mirage to secure a place in the quarterfinals.
The result matters because FURIA stayed alive in the title race after a close three-map battle. Meanwhile, Aurora’s run ended in the 9th-16th place bracket, with the team earning $35,000 in prize money.
FURIA and Aurora Fight Through Three Maps
Ancient — FURIA 13-11 Aurora. Aurora chose Ancient, but FURIA claimed the opening map after a tight contest. Aurora built an 8-4 lead in the first half, while FURIA responded after the side switch. However, FURIA held on in the final rounds and took the map 13-11.
Nuke — Aurora 16-14 FURIA. FURIA selected Nuke and started decently, leaving the first half at 5:7. Then Aurora started to build a round difference to 12:9, and FURIA were able to close the gap and start overtime rounds. In the end, Aurora was stronger and won the map with the score 16:14.
Mirage — FURIA 13-9 Aurora. Mirage was left as the final map of the veto. Aurora took control early with a 9-3 first half and maintained enough of an advantage to finish the series. But FURIA refused to lose, and won 10 consecutive rounds and secured the victory in the series, closing the map with a score 13:9 and series 2:1.
KSCERATO Leads FURIA as Series MVP
Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato was FURIA’s highest-rated player in the series with a 1.26 Rating. He finished with a 64-50 K-D record, 88.1 ADR and a 76.3% KAST, providing a consistent impact across all three maps.
Danil “molodoy” Golubenko also had a strong series for FURIA, posting a 1.25 rating. For Aurora, Ali “Wicadia” Haydar Yalçın led the team with a 1.23 rating, but his performance was not enough to prevent the elimination.
VRS Points Change After FURIA vs Aurora
FURIA gained 43 VRS points after the victory, moving from 1,834 points to a higher total while remaining fourth in the ranking. The result strengthens FURIA’s position as the team heads into the Esports World Cup 2026 quarterfinals.
Aurora lost eight VRS points following the defeat. The team dropped from 1,707 points and fell from 12th to 13th place in the ranking.
FURIA Move On as Aurora’s EWC 2026 Run Ends
FURIA now have a chance to continue their playoff campaign and turn this Round of 16 win into a deep tournament run. Aurora, however, leave the Esports World Cup 2026 after a competitive series in which they pushed FURIA to all three maps.
