G2 continue their run at the tournament in China while not being in the best physical condition. Matúš “MATYS” Šimko said that part of the team fell ill, while the unusual sleep schedule further complicates recovery. Despite this, the players managed to get through a difficult match and remain confident that they can reach the final.
MATYS fell ill during the tournament
The main additional problem for G2 became the players’ physical condition. MATYS admitted that he himself fell ill, which made playing official matches more difficult, while adapting to the conditions in China only increased the load.
I got a little sick, so it was not easy. And the sleep schedule here in China is not the most convenient for us. But we fought well and, I think, that is why we were able to win.
For the team, this is especially unpleasant because of the packed tournament schedule. When health and recovery problems are added to preparation for an opponent, even a regular series starts to require much more energy.
The schedule in China also creates difficulties
MATYS separately drew attention to the sleep schedule the team has to adapt to. For a European roster, the time difference and unusual timetable can directly affect concentration, reaction, and the overall energy level during matches.
We need to reset, try to recharge our batteries as much as possible, and get back on the server tomorrow, because we will have two matches.
That is why recovery is now becoming almost as important a part of preparation for G2 as analyzing opponents. The team may have minimal time between series, and that makes good physical condition critically important at the next stage.
The victory was much harder than it may have looked
Despite the problems, G2 managed to get through another test, and MATYS especially highlighted the team’s character. According to him, the ability to keep fighting in difficult conditions became one of the main reasons for the positive result.
I am very happy, and now we just move on to tomorrow’s matches. As far as I know, there will be two of them tomorrow.
This means there is practically no time to celebrate. After finishing one series, G2 need to immediately switch to the next opponents and try to recover before a double matchday.

G2 are still aiming for the final
Illness and the difficult schedule have not changed the team’s tournament ambitions. MATYS directly stated that G2 believe they can reach the final, although after the matches already played, they clearly understand how hard every next step is.
We are confident that we can reach the final, but you can see for yourselves how hard every match is here.
This mindset is especially important right now. G2 have to fight opponents, physical fatigue, and the need to quickly adapt to the tournament rhythm at the same time, so the path to the final will depend not only on pure level of play.
Physical condition may become a separate factor
For a team with two matches in one day, accumulated fatigue can show itself especially strongly. Even a small drop in concentration in the late stage of a map can affect clutches, communication, and the quality of decisions in the most important rounds.
That is why MATYS’ words about the need to “recharge the batteries” describe G2’s main task before the next day well. Right now, the team does not need to radically change something in their game as much as recover enough so that physical problems do not start determining the result of the series.
G2 continue the fight despite the problems
For now, illness has not stopped G2. The team managed to win a difficult match and kept confidence that they can go all the way to the final, although the tournament conditions make this task noticeably harder.
The next matchday will be a serious test of their energy reserves. If G2 handle the double load and do not lose the quality of their play because of health problems, the current situation may remain only an unpleasant episode, rather than a factor that stops their tournament run.
