G2 coach Eetu “sAw” Saha admitted in an interview with HLTV that the team have stopped progressing and may even have taken steps backward following their 0-2 start at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026.
G2 have won only one of their last six series, with the latest defeat coming against Aurora. Despite keeping both maps close, sAw believes problems in late-round situations and a lack of connection between players continue to cost the team.
G2 struggle to close key rounds
G2 lost 11:13 on Cache and 14:16 on Inferno against Aurora, dropping to the 0-2 pool in Bucharest.
sAw pointed to specific situations where the team held advantages but failed to convert them, including a 5v2 lost to woxic and another round where kyxsan found multiple kills while G2 were not reacting together.
There’s no prize in getting it close and then losing.
The coach believes the issue is a combination of individual decisions and team coordination.
We need to be making better decisions individually, and then of course as a team also in connecting these last final seconds or moments of the round.
According to sAw, G2 need more patience and trust in late-round situations rather than players attempting to finish rounds with individual moves.
sAw admits G2 have taken a step backward
The recent run is particularly concerning after G2 showed promise with a second-place finish at FISSURE Playground 3.
An early ESL Pro League Season 24 exit gave the roster additional time to practice, but sAw said the expected improvement has not followed.
Right now it’s like we’re stagnating, or maybe even took a couple of steps backward.
He added that the team need to look beyond individual late-round mistakes and continue evaluating roles and the overall structure of the lineup.
G2 now have their backs against the wall in Bucharest, with another defeat resulting in elimination.
r1nkle remains a work in progress
sAw also discussed the ongoing integration of Artem “r1nkle” Moroz, whose performances have attracted attention since joining G2.
The coach said the organization knew from the beginning that the move carried risk and would require time.
We always knew it’s going to take time. It’s not going to be an easy move that we can make work in one month.
sAw praised the AWPer for his mentality, openness and willingness to provide input, but acknowledged that G2 are still trying to find the right balance between keeping him comfortable and expanding his role.
For now, the immediate focus is survival at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026. G2 sit at 0-2 after consecutive losses to NAVI and Aurora and must win their next three series to reach the playoffs.
