Team Spirit became the champions of PGL Astana 2026 after a dominant victory over Falcons in the grand final. Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov’s squad closed out the series 3-0 and gave their opponents virtually no chance in the tournament’s deciding match. For Spirit, this was one of their strongest performances of the season. The team not only took revenge for previous losses to Falcons earlier in 2026, but also reinforced their status as one of the biggest favorites on the world stage heading into the summer part of the season.
Spirit outclassed Falcons on every map

The series started on Dust2 — Spirit’s map pick. Falcons tried to keep the game competitive, but after a close first half, Spirit completely took control and closed the map 16-12.
Mirage was far more one-sided. karrigan’s team constantly lost opening duels, while their T-side struggled heavily throughout the map. Spirit comfortably secured a 13-7 win to move to match point.
Ancient became the final blow. Falcons once again failed to produce a stable offense, while Spirit perfectly utilized aggressive rotations and strong retake setups. After another confident CT side, donk and company closed the map 13-10 and completed a clean sweep in the grand final.

donk dominates another big final

The biggest star of the series was once again Danil “donk” Kryshkovets. The Russian rifler finished the final with a 1.52 rating, 94.4 ADR, and 62 kills across three maps. He was also named Player of the Match after receiving more than 80% of the fan vote.
His performance on Dust2 was especially important, as Spirit managed to turn the game around after a difficult first half. donk constantly won key duels against m0NESY and kyousuke, while Falcons never found an answer to Spirit’s aggressive style.
Other strong performers for Spirit included:
- Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov — 51-39, 1.05 rating
- Andrey “tN1R” Tatarinovich — 1.29 rating
- Boris “magixx” Vorobiev — 1.06 rating

Falcons collapse in the final despite a strong tournament run

Despite the brutal loss in the final, Falcons still had an impressive run in Astana. The team reached the grand final after victories over K27, Monte, FURIA, and magic, while kyousuke continued to deliver one of the best individual performances of the event.
However, in the final, Spirit’s structure completely neutralized Falcons’ biggest strengths. Nikola “NiKo” Kovač finished the series with only a 0.76 rating, while Finn “karrigan” Andersen ended the match at 32-56 with a 0.66 rating.
Even m0NESY, who had consistently carried Falcons throughout the playoffs, was unable to change the momentum of the series and finished the final with an even 1.00 rating.
Spirit strengthen their position in the VRS rankings
The victory at PGL Astana 2026 was also extremely important for Spirit in the context of the Valve Regional Standings. Thanks to the title win, the team gained 21 VRS points and solidified their place at No.2 in the rankings. Falcons, meanwhile, lost 13 points after the grand final defeat, although they still remain inside the VRS top three.

Spirit get revenge and end the tournament in dominant fashion
Just a few weeks ago, Falcons defeated Spirit twice at IEM Rio 2026, but the PGL Astana grand final turned into a completely different story. Spirit looked faster, more aggressive, and significantly better prepared from a tactical perspective.
For donk and company, this title could become one of the defining moments of their season, especially ahead of the next Tier-1 events and the battle for the title of the best team in the world in 2026.
