This interview tells the story of Mauisnake’s journey from childhood to becoming a Counter-Strike analyst . He grew up in California and Hawaii as an only child, performed well academically, but mainly focused on subjects he was passionate about. From an early age, he was drawn to media and gaming, attending esports events and playing various games, including RTS and FPS titles, which helped build his foundation in understanding competitive play.
He started playing Counter-Strike at the age of 12, initially picking up Source by mistake, but quickly became deeply involved. He progressed fast, played in competitive leagues, and even came close to a serious opportunity at a young age. However, he chose not to sacrifice his education. After moving to Hawaii, high ping limited his ability to compete, leading him to step away from the game and focus more on school and personal life.

The turning point came during university, when he realized he didn’t want to become a pro player but instead pursue a career in broadcast and analysis. He began working in multiple directions at once — competing, creating content, and taking smaller casting opportunities. This combined approach helped him build recognition, and with support from industry figures like Thorin, he eventually got his breakthrough at a big event, establishing himself as a professional analyst.
