G2 confirmed their status as favorites by securing a hard-fought 2:1 victory over GamerLegion in the decisive Swiss-stage match. Although the series started poorly for them, sAw’s team managed to turn things around thanks to the individual brilliance of MATYS and SunPayus, securing their spot in the playoffs.

FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2

The G2 vs. GamerLegion clash took place in the fourth Swiss round. Both teams entered the match with a 2-1 record, meaning victory guaranteed a playoff berth, while defeat left the loser on the edge of elimination. It was a classic “do-or-die” battle: the favorites sought to confirm their status, while the underdogs aimed to defy expectations.

ROAD TO THE MATCH

  • G2:

The European mix had shown inconsistency throughout the group stage. They confidently defeated Lynn Vision and FaZe but heavily faltered against FURIA, losing 0:2. Despite this, analysts still considered G2 the favorites, as the roster remained steadily within the world’s top five and featured several star players capable of deciding any map.

  • GamerLegion:

GL entered as underdogs. They had wins over 3DMAX and a sensational victory against Team Liquid, but also painful losses to TYLOO and Vitality. Their roster lacked stability: while some players delivered standout matches, overall team cohesion was missing. For them, this was a chance to prove that even against a top-five opponent, they could fight for a playoff spot.

G2 STAND TALL

The start of the series was a shock for G2: GamerLegion convincingly won on Overpass (13:5). But sAw’s team quickly bounced back, crushing on Ancient (13:2). The decider on Inferno was tense, but G2 held their nerve, closing it out 13:10.

MATCH TIMELINE

  • Overpass (GL pick) — 13:5 for GamerLegion

GL immediately imposed their pace. Their CT-side start was dominant: aggressive pushes in mid and long confused their opponents. REZ and Tauson won key clutches that broke G2’s economy completely. The map ended in a convincing win for GL, who looked more cohesive and fearless.

  • Ancient (G2 pick) — 13:2 for G2

On the second map, the roles reversed completely. G2 delivered a textbook T-side: SunPayus opened up rounds with a series of AWP kills, while MATYS controlled mid. GL had no answers: they looked lost, failed to counter G2’s fast hits, and suffered a crushing defeat.

  • Inferno (decider) — 13:10 for G2

The final map was a true battle of nerves. In the first half, G2 led thanks to malbsMd’s aggression and MATYS’s precision. But after the side switch, GL mounted a comeback: REZ twice saved his team with 1v2 clutches. At 11:10 for G2, the decisive moment came — huNter- orchestrated a retake on A-site, and MATYS sealed the win with a crucial duel. These moments tipped the balance.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Matúš “MATYS” Šimko was the standout star of the series. His consistency across all three maps and composure on Inferno determined the outcome.

TEAM PERFORMANCES

For G2, MATYS played the key role, showing the most consistency and closing Inferno with decisive plays. SunPayus not only dominated with the AWP but also created space for teammates with opening frags. huNter- took charge as the coordinator, saving the team with crucial retakes and displaying leadership qualities. malbsMd added aggression at vital moments, forcing opponents into mistakes. Even HeavyGod, though less visible on the scoreboard, did plenty of the dirty work, ensuring positional stability. Altogether, this allowed G2 to recover from the Overpass loss and close out the series confidently.

For GamerLegion, REZ was the driving force once again, proving his leadership and carrying the team in key moments. His clutches on Inferno kept GL in the game until the very end. Tauson also contributed at the start of the series, especially on Overpass, but his impact faded later. Kursy was inconsistent, alternating bright plays with costly mistakes. PR failed to hold his areas, costing the team multiple rounds. The weakest link was ztr, whose lost duels prevented GL from seriously contesting the match. In the end, the team looked fragmented, and even REZ’s individual brilliance wasn’t enough to save them.

WHAT’S NEXT

The victory over GamerLegion secured G2 a spot in the FISSURE Playground 2 playoffs. This is another step toward the stability their coach sAw recently emphasized. The upcoming matches will show whether the team can maintain momentum and challenge the tournament’s top contenders.

GamerLegion, meanwhile, have been handed a final lifeline. With a 2-2 record, they will play a do-or-die match in the Swiss stage. To qualify for the playoffs, they’ll need more than just REZ’s form — they must find the team cohesion that was missing against G2.
