Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen has been convicted of aggravated tax fraud by a Finnish district court and received a four-month suspended prison sentence with a two-year probation period.
According to Finnish media reports cited by HLTV, the case concerns approximately €53,000 in income from Valve that Aleksib failed to declare for 2019. The NAVI in-game leader can appeal the ruling until November 26.
Court finds failure to declare income intentional
The undeclared income came from Valve payments connected to Aleksib participation at IEM Katowice Major 2019 and StarLadder Berlin Major 2019.
According to the court ruling, failing to report approximately €53,000 resulted in around €28,000 less income tax being paid.
Aleksib admitted that the income had not been included in his tax filing but denied intentionally attempting to avoid paying taxes. His defense argued that he believed the relevant taxes had already been handled.
The court rejected that position and concluded that the failure to declare the income was intentional and aimed at obtaining financial benefit.
Aleksib has reportedly since paid the previously undeclared taxes.
Four-month suspended sentence
The Finnish court sentenced the 29-year-old to four months of suspended imprisonment with a two-year probation period.
A suspended sentence means Aleksib will not serve the four months in prison unless conditions related to the sentence are breached.
The ruling can still be appealed, with the deadline reportedly set for November 26.
The verdict follows an October hearing in which prosecutors had requested the same four-month suspended sentence that the court ultimately imposed.
No comment from Aleksib
HLTV contacted Aleksib for comment following the verdict but had not received a response at the time of publication.
No official statement has been issued by NAVI regarding the ruling.
Aleksib is currently competing with NAVI at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026. The team recently moved into a strong position in the race for PGL Singapore Major 2026 after gaining significant VRS points in Bucharest.
For now, there is no confirmed information that the conviction will affect his position in NAVI or participation in upcoming international tournaments.
