B8 have produced one of the biggest surprises of the Esports World Cup 2026, defeating Vitality 2-1 in the Group C upper-bracket semi-final. The Ukrainian team recovered from a difficult position on Inferno before dominating the decisive Dust2.
The result sends B8 directly to the playoffs. Meanwhile, Vitality dropped to the lower bracket, where they will face Lynn Vision for a second chance to qualify for the playoff stage.
Vitality Take Mirage First
Vitality started the series with a 16-12 victory on Mirage, B8’s map pick. The French-led side established control early and held on to take the opening map.
B8, however, did not allow the Mirage defeat to decide the series. They responded with much stronger performances on Inferno and Dust2.
B8 Turn Inferno Around
Vitality built a 9-3 lead on Inferno and appeared close to moving into the upper-bracket final. However, B8 completed a major comeback from that six-round deficit.
B8 won Inferno 13-11 to level the series. The comeback shifted the momentum ahead of the decisive map.

Dust2 Belongs to B8
B8 entered Dust2 with confidence and controlled the final map from the beginning. Vitality could not find a response as B8 built a commanding lead.
The Ukrainian team closed the series with a 13-4 victory on Dust2. That dominant showing secured a 2-1 win and a place in the Esports World Cup playoffs.
MVP of the Match
Andrii “npl” Kukharskyi was B8’s standout player in the victory. He finished the series with 56 kills, an 85.6 ADR and a 1.25 rating.
Danylo “s1zzi” Vinnyk also played an important role, posting a 1.19 rating. Meanwhile, Dmytro “esenthial” Tsvir added a 1.08 rating as B8 overcame one of the tournament’s leading teams.
VRS Changes
The victory gave B8 a significant boost in the VRS standings. The team gained 48 points and rose from 20th place to 16th.
Vitality lost 22 points after the defeat. However, the team remained fifth in the ranking despite the setback.
B8 Earn a Playoff Place
B8’s result is important because the team reached the playoffs through the upper bracket after beating Vitality, one of the strongest sides in the event. Their Inferno comeback and one-sided Dust2 performance showed that B8 could recover under pressure and then take control of the series.
The playoffs now await B8, while Vitality faces a more difficult route. The French organization will meet Lynn Vision in the lower bracket, where defeat would end its Esports World Cup campaign.
