BLAST Open Porto will begin on August 26, and the opening matchups have now been confirmed. Sixteen teams will start their campaigns in Copenhagen, but only six will earn the right to continue their run in Porto.
The draw has already produced several notable fixtures. Aurora will open the event against G2, FURIA and paiN will meet in a Brazilian derby, and reigning champions Vitality will face Inner Circle without William “mezii” Merriman.
Copenhagen Stage Sets the Path to Porto
The Copenhagen stage will determine the six teams that advance to the final part of BLAST Open Porto. Those teams will then travel to Porto and compete for the largest share of the $1,100,000 prize pool.
Therefore, every opening series will be important from the start. Teams will need to make a strong early impression if they want to remain in contention for a place in the Porto stage.
Aurora will be among the first teams in action. The newly international roster faces G2 in the first match of the tournament, giving the event an immediate high-profile pairing.
Meanwhile, Spirit will take on DENDELE in the following series. NAVI will then face M80, before FURIA and paiN conclude the first day with an all-Brazilian meeting.
Vitality Start Title Defence Against Inner Circle
Vitality will begin their campaign on August 27. The reigning champions are set to face Ukrainian side Inner Circle in the first match of the second day.
The matchup will be Vitality’s first step in their attempt to defend the BLAST Open Porto title. However, the team will do so without mezii, adding extra attention to their opening series against Inner Circle.
MOUZ will face 9z after the Vitality match. In addition, Legacy will play FUT, while Falcons and Lynn Vision will meet in the final opening-round series.
