One of the most recognizable chapters in Spirit’s history has finally come to an end. After many years on the professional scene, dozens of major LAN tournaments, and the biggest trophies of his career, Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov has decided on his future and reflected on his long journey in Counter-Strike.
chopper retires as a professional player
The 29-year-old chopper has confirmed that he does not plan to return to professional competition as a player. His career lasted more than ten years, and he spent most of that time with Vega Squadron and Spirit, progressing from a young player to one of the most recognizable in-game leaders on the scene.
chopper first gained widespread recognition during his time with Vega Squadron. The team became one of the biggest breakout stories of its era, while their 16:2 victory over Ninjas in Pyjamas on Cache in the ELEAGUE Major 2017 qualifier was one of the moments that brought significantly more attention to the Russian roster.
Ten years across two organizations
chopper himself emphasized that almost his entire professional journey was connected to just two organizations. Vega Squadron gave him the opportunity to establish himself at the professional level, while Spirit became the place where he developed as a captain and achieved the greatest results of his career.
I spent most of my professional Counter-Strike career in two organizations: Vega Squadron and Team Spirit. They became much more to me than just teams I played for, because I spent ten years there.
According to chopper, Vega Squadron opened up new opportunities for him and provided the momentum for his further development. Spirit, meanwhile, became the place where he grew not only as a player but also as a person within a major esports organization.
His biggest trophies came with Spirit
chopper joined Spirit in 2019, and this period became the most successful stage of his career. Together with the team, he won nine trophies, including the Perfect World Shanghai Major, IEM Katowice 2024, IEM Cologne 2025, several BLAST tournaments, and a PGL championship.
In total, chopper competed at 40 major LAN tournaments, 11 of which were Majors. In 2024, he also made the final shortlist for the IGL of the Year award, while in 2025 he missed out on the same award by just one point.
Special thanks to Spirit’s coaches
In his statement, chopper paid particular attention to the people who helped him develop as a captain. He thanked Certus for trusting him with the IGL role, as well as hally, with whom Spirit gradually developed into a team capable of consistently competing for the biggest trophies.
I would especially like to thank Nikolay ‘Certus’, who trusted me with the IGL role, and Sergey ‘hally’ — together, we learned how to win.
chopper also emphasized that working at Spirit gave him the opportunity to see the organization from the inside. According to him, the team’s results are supported by a large number of specialists with different areas of responsibility, while the people he worked with throughout those years became an important part of his life.

Spirit say farewell to their former captain
Following the announcement of his retirement, Spirit released a special video dedicated to chopper. It featured moments from different stages of his time with the team, ranging from emotional pre-match speeches to jokes, victory celebrations, and highlights from the biggest tournaments.
The video also highlighted his distinctive way of communicating with Spirit’s younger players. Over the years, chopper became not only the team’s captain on the server but also one of the roster’s most recognizable public figures, especially during the period when Spirit began regularly competing for the biggest titles.
A new chapter after professional competition
After being moved to the bench at the end of 2025, chopper had already begun gradually stepping away from the traditional professional schedule. He became actively involved in streaming and worked as a community caster, effectively starting to build the next stage of his career even before officially announcing his retirement.
chopper himself made it clear that he intends to remain involved in Counter-Strike and continue working with his audience. His final words in the announcement were directed specifically at the fans who had supported him throughout his career.
A message of thanks to the fans
chopper dedicated a separate part of his statement to Spirit’s supporters. He noted that the fans’ support remained important both during the team’s greatest victories and during periods when their results fell short of expectations.
Throughout all these years, your support has been an important part of my journey — both in moments of triumph and when things weren’t going our way. You experienced the highs and lows alongside us, believed in the team, and helped us keep moving forward.
chopper’s professional career as a player has now officially come to an end, but his connection to Counter-Strike does not end here. After more than ten years of competition, a Major title, and dozens of major LAN tournaments, he is entering a new chapter while remaining part of the scene outside the server.
