Counter-Strike 2 is preparing for a new stage of development. Well-known analyst and content creator Ozzny stated in his latest video that an update is coming soon which could become the most significant one of 2025. His predictions are based on observing Valve’s update patterns and analyzing recent patches that have sparked heated debate within the community.
The Current Update: Disappointment Instead of Breakthrough

At the beginning of October, Valve released another patch for CS2, which at first glance looked promising: four new community maps, fresh weapon charms, and a new set of stickers were added. However, players greeted the update without much excitement.
The main criticism is that in a year of CS2’s existence, developers have done little to expand the actual gameplay. The only additional mode has been Arms Race — a nearly unchanged port from CS:GO. The new formats players have been waiting for are still absent.
The maps look great, and some charms are interesting as well. But CS2 is critically lacking in gameplay content. We still haven’t seen a single new mode, and Cache and Cobblestone remain in the shadows, emphasized Ozzny.
Why Valve Might Be Preparing Something Bigger
The analyst pointed out the cyclical nature of Valve’s updates. Since CS2’s release, the developers have been updating the game roughly every six months: releasing a new case, rotating Armory weapons, and adding community maps. In October of last year, players received a major update that included Train, changes to Overpass, and several collections.
In 2025, however, the October update looked far more modest: only stickers and charms, with no case and no significant changes to the map pool. According to Ozzny, this may indicate that Valve has postponed larger content for the coming weeks.
We are essentially owed a new case and a new map. Most likely, we’ll see the return of Cache. There’s also a chance of a winter version of Cobblestone, which has been leaked online for some time. Anubis updates are also possible — we saw something similar with Overpass last year, he explained.
New Modes: From Arms Race to Retakes
Ozzny also touched on the topic of game modes. While Valve added only Arms Race in 2024, players haven’t seen anything new in 2025. This is particularly disappointing given that every patch has included references to Retakes — a mode where teams start from a planted-bomb scenario.
We’ve all seen the mentions of Retakes in the files. It looks like the mode is already finished, and now is the time for its release. Even if Valve just adds Cache and Retakes, it would already be the biggest update of the year, because the bar for content in 2025 has been set so low, Ozzny noted.
The Community Is Waiting
Over the past year, CS2 has seen a huge expansion in cosmetic content: skins, collections, charms, and cases have been released regularly — and in unprecedented volume. Yet players increasingly emphasize that cosmetics cannot replace new gameplay experiences.
Many believe that Valve has effectively split its teams in two: some developers work exclusively on skins and visual content, while others handle gameplay. And while the “cosmetic team” delivers constant updates, the “gameplay kitchen” has remained largely silent.
What the Update Might Include
According to the analyst, the most anticipated content list looks like this:
- New Cache map — highly likely to return.
- Winter Cobblestone — leaks suggest the map is in final development stages.
- Anubis rework — a logical step after its removal from the active pool.
- Retakes mode — long tested and could become the key feature of the year.
- New case — despite the recent release of Genesis Terminal, history suggests another case could appear before year’s end.
Ozzny concludes that Valve is at a crossroads. If the company wants to maintain player interest in CS2, it needs to deliver a major gameplay-focused update. The potential return of Cache, the winter Cobblestone, an Anubis rework, and the long-awaited Retakes mode could provide the push the community has been waiting for.
The level of expectations this year is so low that even one new mode and one map would make it the biggest update of 2025. But I believe Valve is preparing more, the analyst summarized.
