CS2 players slam Valve after 1.9GB update brings almost nothing

Valve has released a new Counter-Strike 2 update. However, its large download size quickly became a target of criticism from the community. The patch weighs around 1.9GB for some players, while the official notes only mention updates to two community maps — FachWerk and Shelter.

Valve updates FachWerk and Shelter

According to the official CS2 patch notes published on August 13, Valve updated two maps to their latest versions from the Steam Community Workshop:

  • FachWerk
  • Shelter

The announcement listed no gameplay changes or weapon adjustments. Valve also did not mention any major bug fixes or other additions. The short changelog immediately attracted attention. Some players reported downloading around 1.9GB despite the patch notes only listing two map updates.

Community questions the 1.9GB download

The reaction on social media was largely sarcastic. Players questioned why they needed such a large download for a patch with so few listed changes. Several users described it as another “classic” CS update. Others joked about downloading almost 2GB with little new content to discover. One player simply reacted:

1.9GB for this shit dawg

Another sarcastically called it an “insane update.” Other users joked about Valve finally releasing the “biggest update.”

The discussion also included community map creator Roald. He claimed that Valve forgot to mention changes to Boulder in the official notes. According to Roald, the map received major layout changes following community feedback.

Players are still waiting for VacNet and Overwatch news

The patch also renewed discussion about Valve’s anti-cheat systems. Some community members are still waiting for more details about recent VacNet developments. Players also continue to discuss possible access to an Overwatch-style review system.

Content creator Ozzny shared a screenshot of the Counter-Strike 2 VacNet Labeling Portal. The portal says that users need an invitation to participate. Meanwhile, CS2LIQD questioned Valve’s silence about the latest VacNet developments. The lack of official details has left players waiting for more information.

Expectations around anti-cheat improvements remain high. As a result, a nearly 2GB update focused mainly on community maps disappointed some players. Valve has not announced any major gameplay or anti-cheat changes alongside the August 13 patch.
