The Danish organization confirmed that device will join a new club. Magisk’s contract has expired and will not be renewed. For Astralis, this marks the start of a new phase with a possible international direction ahead of the 2026 season.

Device ends his second stint with Astralis

The departure of Nicolai “device” Reedtz is the central point of the announcement. This move marks his second farewell from the organization. Device returned to Astralis in late 2022 after leaving Ninjas in Pyjamas. During this period, he played a key role in stabilizing the roster. With device, Astralis reached the grand finals of PGL Astana and FISSURE Playground 1. The team also qualified for a Major for the first time in three years at StarLadder Budapest Major 2025.

In his farewell message, device admitted the decision was difficult. However, the desire for a new challenge proved stronger:

Leaving Astralis once again has not been an easy decision… I’ve been hungry to try something new and I’m looking forward to the next chapter.

Rumors around 100 Thieves

Earlier reports from HLTV linked device with a move to 100 Thieves. The transfer could reunite him with Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander, who serves as head coach. He could also join a project featuring Håvard “rain” Nygaard. While Astralis have not confirmed the move, device’s next step now appears clear.

Magisk closes a short but important chapter

Alongside device, Astralis also part ways with Emil “Magisk” Reif. The Danish rifler rejoined the team in September after Martin “stavn” Lund stepped aside for personal reasons.

Although Magisk’s return was brief, it had an impact. He helped Astralis reach the playoffs at FISSURE Playground 2, compete at IEM Chengdu, and appear at the Budapest Major. Astralis thanked him publicly and praised his professionalism and contribution during a difficult period. According to Dust2.dk, a return of stavn to the active lineup is unlikely at this stage.

Astralis look beyond Denmark

Astralis used the announcement to outline a broader recruitment strategy:

We are not limiting ourselves to a single market when recruiting new players. Our focus is on quality and long-term direction.

The statement confirms that Astralis are open to international options. The organization appears ready to move away from a purely Danish identity in order to remain competitive.

Community reaction

The departures of device and Magisk triggered an immediate reaction across the CS community. Social media filled with emotional responses. Fans expressed shock with messages like “NOOOOO” and “DEV1CE?!”. Others took a more reflective tone, calling it the “end of an era”.

Most of the support focused on device. Fans recalled following his career since the early Majors. Many thanked him for years of consistency and success. A large part of the community stated they would continue supporting him regardless of his next team. For many, device still represents Astralis at their peak.

Astralis’ plans for an international roster divided opinion. Some fans opposed the loss of Danish identity. Others welcomed the change and viewed it as a necessary reset. Magisk’s exit drew calmer reactions. Fans mainly expressed gratitude for his willingness to help during a transitional phase. Overall, the reaction combined nostalgia with acceptance. Many fans see this moment as the final break from the past.
