At the Birch Cup in Gdańsk, an unexpected event unfolded: Paweł dycha Dycha once again put on the Betclic jersey. Just a month ago, he left the team after roster changes and the departures of two teammates to tier-1, but his return has now become a key factor in the team’s progress at the tournament. Betclic lost their opening match against Nemesis, but showed resilience in decisive matches versus Tricked and Wildcard, securing a spot in Stage 2.

How the return happened

Dycha admitted that coming back to Betclic wasn’t planned. After the team lost two core players — jcobbb to FaZe and hypex to GamerLegion — the organization was left in a critical situation. That’s when discussions about the veteran rifler’s comeback began.

They needed help, and we sat down to talk. Maybe I had some other options, but in the end, we agreed that I would stay at least until the end of the season. After that, we’ll see, Dycha explained.

Birch Cup: from a rough start to a comeback

The start in Gdańsk was far from ideal. The loss to Nemesis in the first match forced the team to reconsider their approach. Dycha admits the problem wasn’t tactics but psychology and communication. The young players felt the pressure, and teamwork was lacking.

However, after a short “brainstorm,” the roster decided to drop the stress and just play “for fun.” That decision paid off: Betclic regrouped, defeated Tricked, and in the decisive series against Wildcard pulled off a comeback on the second map to close the match 2-0.

“jcobbb is a talent you notice right away”

Dycha spoke in detail about the rise of his former teammates. While hypex’s move to GamerLegion might have surprised some, the potential of jcobbb was evident to him immediately:

With jcobbb it was obvious. After just one day it was clear how talented he was. His aim, his crosshair placement — that’s a level you rarely see. FaZe made the right call here.

As for hypex, Dycha believes the young AWPer also has huge potential, but still needs to refine his game:

He needs to take more initiative, especially in tough situations. Still, he’s a great guy and a strong player.

CS2: two years later

Exactly two years ago CS2 replaced CS:GO, and now every professional has their own perspective on the game’s evolution. Dycha’s view is mixed:

The game is better than it was at launch, but development is too slow. Valve are adding skins, terminals, and all sorts of extras — but those are for casual players. We, the pros, need more focus on the competitive side, balance, and stability.

The difficulties of Major qualification

He also touched on the highly debated Major qualification system. According to Dycha, every LAN event is now stacked with strong teams, and the battle for VRS points is exhausting even for established rosters:

It felt like the new system was supposed to make things easier, but it’s become harder. For tier-2 teams, it’s almost impossible to break through. Changes are needed, though what exactly, I can’t say. Maybe just open the system a little more.

Belief in his own future

Despite the ups and downs of his career, Dycha remains confident in his potential. He recalled his triumph with ENCE at IEM Dallas 2023 and stressed that he still has what it takes to play at the highest level:

I still believe in myself. Yes, the road back to tier-1 will be difficult, but I know I can make it. Time will tell.

This story shows just how unpredictable a pro player’s journey can be. Dycha may have left Betclic not long ago, but now he’s once again leading the team forward while watching his younger teammates conquer the big stage. For him, the Birch Cup is not only a new challenge, but also a chance to prove that his era is far from over.
