FURIA defeated G2 2-1 in the Esports World Cup 2026 quarter-final on August 20. The Brazilian organization became the first team to secure a place in the tournament’s semi-finals.
The series delivered three contrasting maps and featured a standout display from Danil “molodoy” Golubenko. Meanwhile, G2’s elimination ends their campaign in 5th-8th place, with the team receiving $60,000 in prize money. FURIA will now meet the winner of FUT vs MOUZ.
FURIA Win a Three-Map Series
G2 began the series on Ancient, their own map pick. However, FURIA controlled the game from the start and secured a commanding 13-3 victory. The result gave FURIA an early advantage in the best-of-three.
G2 responded on Anubis, which FURIA had selected. The European team won the map 13-3 and levelled the series at 1-1. As a result, the quarter-final moved to the deciding map, Dust2.
Dust2 was left over in the veto and decided the series. FURIA once again took control, winning 13-4 to complete the 2-1 victory. The team therefore advanced to the Esports World Cup 2026 semi-final, while G2 exited the playoff stage.

molodoy Earns MVP Honors
Danil “molodoy” Golubenko was FURIA’s highest-rated player in the series. He finished with 47 kills and 21 deaths, along with a 1.29 Rating 3.0.
Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis also had a major impact on FURIA’s win. He recorded a team-high 1.45 Rating 3.0, 38-29 K-D, 95.5 ADR and 83.7% KAST. Yuri “yuurih” Santos followed with a 1.32 rating.
VRS Changes After the Quarter-Final
FURIA entered the match with 1,858 VRS points in fourth place. The victory added 54 points, taking the team to 1,912 points and lifting it one position to third place.
G2 had 1,765 VRS points before the series and ranked 10th. The loss cost the team 11 points, leaving G2 on 1,754 points. Despite the points decrease, G2 remain in 10th place.

FURIA’s victory keeps the team in contention for the Esports World Cup 2026 title and guarantees another high-stakes playoff match. Their semi-final opponent will be decided by the upcoming FUT vs MOUZ series.
