GamerLegion continued their incredible playoff run at IEM Atlanta 2026 after defeating paiN Gaming 2-1 in the quarter-finals. Despite losing Overpass early in the series, the European roster recovered strongly on Nuke before completely controlling Inferno to secure a semi-final spot and eliminate one of the hottest teams of the tournament.

Road through the tournament

GamerLegion continue building momentum after already eliminating Liquid, SINNERS and Astralis earlier in the tournament. The victory over paiN now sends them into the semi-finals of IEM Atlanta 2026. paiN entered the playoffs after an impressive run through the group stage, including victories over FaZe and FUT, but their tournament journey now comes to an end in the quarter-finals.

The series opened on Overpass — GamerLegion’s own map pick — but paiN immediately punished the European squad with aggressive mid-round pressure and confident CT-side setups. Guilherme “piriajr” Barbosa constantly created space around short and connector, while snow and saffee shut down several late executes to help paiN secure a comfortable 13-6 victory.

GamerLegion responded much better on Nuke. Fredrik “REZ” Sterner repeatedly found opening kills around yard control, while Milan “hypex” Polowiec dominated multiple late-round situations on both sides of the map. paiN struggled heavily to establish stable economy control, allowing GamerLegion to equalize the series with a convincing 13-6 win.

Inferno quickly became one-sided in GamerLegion’s favor. PR and hypex completely shut down paiN’s banana control throughout the first half, while Tauson delivered several important entry kills during T-side executions. paiN never fully recovered after losing momentum early, and GamerLegion comfortably closed the decider 13-8.

Milan “hypex” Polowiec delivered one of the strongest performances of his career and finished the series with a 1.36 rating, 80.3 ADR and multiple crucial impact rounds across all three maps. REZ also played a massive role during GamerLegion’s comeback victory, while PR remained highly consistent throughout the series.

For paiN, piriajr once again looked like the team’s most impactful player with a strong 1.25 rating, but the Brazilian side struggled heavily after losing control of Nuke.

Team reactions after the match

Following the victory, GamerLegion immediately celebrated hypex’s performance on social media, calling the Polish rifler the clear MVP of the series after his dominant display against paiN.

paiN also reacted shortly after elimination, thanking fans for the support throughout the tournament and confirming that the team will quickly shift focus toward the upcoming CS Asia Championship following their run in Atlanta.

What comes next at IEM Atlanta 2026

GamerLegion now move into the semi-finals as one of the most dangerous dark horses remaining in the tournament. Meanwhile, paiN leave Atlanta after another strong international showing, but the Brazilian squad will likely feel disappointed after such a promising start to the playoff series.
