BLAST Open London 2025 has gifted us one of the brightest stories of the season — the rise of Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko, a Ukrainian talent who joined G2 from Cloud9 at the start of the year and is already shaping the image of the team’s new leader. In the quarter-final against FaZe, he was the central figure: the series ended 2-0 in G2’s favor, and HeavyGod closed it with an impressive 1.48 rating.
Self-criticism as a driving force

Paradoxically, despite this success and a stable average rating of 1.16 this season, HeavyGod refuses to let himself relax. His words after the match reveal the character of a player who lives not by stats, but by his sense of true effectiveness:
There are easy kills that I sometimes miss. It annoys me. I’m too harsh on myself — everybody tells me this, but it’s my way. I’m trying to be a perfect player. I know it’s impossible, but I strive to go higher and higher.
These words reflect the mindset of a champion. HeavyGod sets the bar higher than anyone else around him. For him, even a brilliant match is not the peak, but just another step in the endless process of improvement. And that could be the main foundation for his long-term success.
The sAw system: G2 like we’ve never seen before
The turning point for G2 was the appointment of Eetu “sAw” Saha as head coach. With the arrival of the former ENCE leader, the team — once dependent on the individual brilliance of NiKo and m0NESY — finally gained a clear in-game structure. HeavyGod highlights the coach’s role:
We have structure, everyone knows their role. We can switch roles because you can’t be stuck in one position. We cover each other, we push ourselves to the limit. sAw put belief in us as a team, and we feel that good times are ahead.
This is no longer the chaotic G2 of years past. This is a unit where SunPayus confidently controls the AWP, MATYS brings energy, malbsMd creates space with his aggressive style, and huNter- manages to combine the duties of IGL and fragger. HeavyGod has seamlessly integrated into this ensemble, doing the crucial “dirty work” as an anchor.
A collective instead of a superstar

In the minds of most fans, G2 has always been a team of superstars. But HeavyGod thinks differently:
We don’t need a single superstar because we know how to work together as a unit. All of us are strong individually, but the main thing is that we support each other.
This approach is revolutionary for a brand long associated with individual magic. Today, G2 are trying to prove that teamwork can outweigh the imbalance of star power.
Arena, emotions, and a new challenge
The match against FaZe was played in an atmosphere where most of the crowd cheered for the opponent. For HeavyGod, it was his debut in a large arena, but the pressure from the stands didn’t break him — it only underlined his resilience:
We try to stay humble and support each other. The main thing is not to work for nothing. We put in a lot of effort and we have to give our maximum on the server.
Despite his individual success, he once again shifts the focus back to the team. For him, victory is more important than personal records — and this maturity sends a clear signal to the entire scene.
Up next — FURIA
G2 will now face FURIA in the semi-final. And although the Brazilian squad is known for their unpredictability, HeavyGod remains calm and composed:
We played them in Cologne — one win, one loss. They’re strong, but we’ll prepare, get good sleep, and give everything we have.
This is not bravado but quiet confidence. G2 no longer promise just a show — they promise systematic work.
HeavyGod has become the symbol of G2’s transformation. His self-criticism may seem excessive, but it’s what shapes a player who is never satisfied, even with world-class achievements. This is not just a story about a new talent, but about the making of a new leader who thinks in terms of process rather than results.
If G2 can maintain the balance between individual brilliance and team structure, and HeavyGod continues his obsession with perfection, we may well be witnessing the birth of a new anchor of the era. The victory over FaZe was only the prologue — the main part of the story lies ahead.
