The Esports World Cup 2026 group stage opened with 16 matches and several major statements. Vitality, GamerLegion, The MongolZ, Legacy and Falcons claimed convincing victories, while G2, B8, FaZe and JijieHao survived tight contests.
The first day immediately produced important results for every team’s tournament position. Several favorites started with wins; however, Spirit suffered a surprise defeat against JijieHao.
Luminosity vs GamerLegion
GamerLegion defeated Luminosity 13-3 on Nuke. The European team built a 9-3 lead in the first half, then won all four rounds of the second half to close the match without allowing Luminosity back into the game.
For GamerLegion, Timur “FL4MUS” Marev was the best player of the match. He recorded 17 kills, 113.7 ADR and a 1.85 Rating.

BIG vs Aurora
BIG secured a 13-9 win over Aurora on Cache. With a 7-5 lead at halftime, BIG maintained control by taking the second half 6-4.
Jon “JDC” de Castro was the best player of the match. He finished with 20 kills and a 1.37 Rating.

FUT vs TYLOO
FUT beat TYLOO 13-10 on Mirage. The team claimed a convincing 9-3 first half; however, TYLOO responded with seven rounds after the side switch and made the finish much closer.
Džiugas “dziugss” Steponavičius was the best player of the match. He posted 20 kills and a 1.34 Rating.

Spirit vs JijieHao
JijieHao defeated Spirit 13-10 on Mirage and sent them to the lower bracket. The teams were tied 6-6 after the first half; however, JijieHao won the second half 7-4 to complete one of the opening day’s biggest upsets.
Danil “donk” Kryshkovets was the best player of the match despite Spirit’s defeat. He delivered 23 kills, 93.2 ADR and a 1.58 Rating.

magic vs The MongolZ
The MongolZ earned a 13-7 win over magic on Mirage. They established an 8-4 lead in the first half and followed it with a 5-3 second half to secure a controlled victory.
Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch was the best player of the match. He recorded 20 kills, 103.2 ADR and a 1.56 Rating.

G2 vs M80
G2 overcame M80 13-11 on Mirage. Neither team found an edge in the first half, which ended 6-6, but G2 won the second half 7-5 to take the close match.
Artem “r1nkle” Moroz was the best player of the match. He finished with 24 kills, 91.2 ADR and a 1.48 Rating.

Ninjas in Pyjamas vs Legacy
Legacy opened with a convincing 13-5 win over Ninjas in Pyjamas on Cache. Legacy took an 8-4 lead before halftime and allowed NIP only one round in the second half.
Santino “try” Rigal was the best player of the match. He posted 16 kills, 96.0 ADR and a 1.53 Rating.

Falcons vs K27
Falcons defeated K27 13-6 on Dust2. They dominated the opening half 9-3 and then protected that advantage by taking the second half 4-3.
The top individual performance came from Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov was the best player of the match. He finished with 22 kills, 110.2 ADR and a 1.97 Rating.

PARIVISION vs B8
B8 edged PARIVISION 13-11 on Cache. B8 entered the second half with a 7-5 lead, and a 6-6 finish was enough for the Ukrainian roster to hold on.
Andrii “npl” Kukharskyi was the best player of the match. He recorded 14 kills, 84.5 ADR and a 1.31 Rating.

BetBoom Team vs FaZe
FaZe beat BetBoom Team 13-11 on Nuke. FaZe dominated the first half 9-3, but BetBoom Team responded with an 8-4 second half and came close to completing a comeback.
Kirill “Magnojez” Rodnov was the best player of the match despite the BetBoom Team’s loss. He finished with 17 kills, 93.8 ADR and a 1.35 Rating.

MIBR vs Astralis
Astralis claimed a 13-6 win over MIBR on Inferno. Astralis held a narrow 7-5 lead at halftime before winning six of the final seven rounds to pull away.
Love “phzy” Smidebrant was the best player of the match. He recorded 19 kills, 94.4 ADR and a 1.57 Rating.

NAVI vs 3DMAX
NAVI defeated 3DMAX 13-9 on Inferno. An 8-4 first-half advantage gave the Ukrainian side enough room to control the result, even though the teams split the second half 5-5.
Mihai “iM” Ivan was the best player of the match. He posted 15 kills, 72.9 ADR and a 1.52 Rating.

Wildcard vs FURIA
FURIA beat Wildcard 13-10 on Inferno. FURIA led 9-3 after the first half, but Wildcard fought back with a 7-4 second half before falling short.
Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato was the best player of the match. He finished with 17 kills, 78.0 ADR and a 1.33 Rating.

Vitality vs 100 Thieves
Vitality ended the opening day with a dominant 13-4 win over 100 Thieves on Nuke. After securing a 9-3 first half, the team won four of the five rounds after the side switch to complete the result.
Meanwhile, Dan “apEX” Madesclaire was the best player of the match. He recorded 18 kills, 122.9 ADR and a 1.99 Rating.

Lynn Vision 8-13 MOUZ
MOUZ defeated Lynn Vision 13-8 on Dust2. The first half ended 6-6, but MOUZ took control after the side switch and won the second half 7-2 to secure the victory.
Adrian “xeleX” Vincze, meanwhile, topped the scoreboard with 20 kills, 83.1 ADR and a 1.58 Rating.

9z vs paiN
9z secured a dominant 13-3 victory over paiN on Cache. After building a commanding 10-2 lead in the first half, the South American team won three of the four remaining rounds to close the match quickly.
Matias “HUASOPEEK” Ibañez Hernandez led the server with 19 kills, 108.8 ADR and a 2.20 Rating.
