One of the biggest storylines of IEM Atlanta 2026 finally received its answer. After multiple painful defeats against Vitality throughout the season, Natus Vincere finally overcame the world’s No.1 team and secured a huge 2-1 victory in the quarter-finals. For NAVI, this result means far more than simply another playoff appearance. Vitality had repeatedly stopped the Ukrainian organization during the biggest tournaments of 2026, making this victory one of NAVI’s most emotional and important wins of the season.

Road to the semi-finals

NAVI started IEM Atlanta 2026 with a 2-0 victory over Passion UA before surviving difficult playoff battles against GamerLegion and Vitality to secure a semi-final spot. Vitality entered the event as one of the clear favorites after another dominant stretch earlier in the season, but playoff defeats against BetBoom and NAVI suddenly turned Atlanta into a disappointing tournament for the world’s No.1 team.

The series started on Dust2 — Vitality’s map pick — and immediately turned into a close battle. NAVI stayed competitive thanks to strong entries from b1t and important AWP impact from w0nderful, but Vitality consistently found answers in late-round situations.

ZywOo and ropz helped Vitality edge out the opener 13-11 after several successful T-side executes, putting NAVI under immediate pressure.

Despite losing the first map, NAVI looked far calmer than in many of their previous meetings against Vitality and continued playing aggressively throughout the series.

Anubis changes the entire momentum

Anubis became the turning point of the match. NAVI looked far more prepared defensively and constantly denied Vitality control around middle and B site.

w0nderful started taking over the game with multiple opening kills, while iM and b1t repeatedly shut down executes before they could properly develop. AleksiB’s mid-round calling also created major problems for Vitality during slower rounds.

Vitality still attempted several comeback rounds behind ZywOo, but NAVI consistently won the key late-game situations and eventually closed Anubis 13-11 to equalize the series.

After two close maps, many expected Inferno to become another thriller. Instead, NAVI completely crushed Vitality on the decider.

The Ukrainian side dominated banana control from the start, while w0nderful’s aggressive AWPing constantly punished Vitality’s attempts to gain space. b1t delivered several massive multi-kill rounds on the CT side, and iM repeatedly shut down late executes toward A.

Vitality never established economy or rhythm on the map and looked completely overwhelmed by NAVI’s pace and aggression.

NAVI stormed to a dominant 13-3 victory on Inferno and closed the series 2-1, creating one of their biggest moments of 2026 so far.

w0nderful becomes the hero of the series

Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov delivered one of the best playoff performances of his recent career and finished the match with a huge 1.45 rating and 85.2 ADR.

Valeriy “b1t” Vakhovskiy also played a massive role with a 1.27 rating and several crucial defensive rounds throughout the series.

For Vitality, ropz was the only player to finish with a stable individual level, while apEX struggled heavily and ended the match with a 0.67 rating.

VRS impact after the result

The victory also brought important VRS implications for both organizations. NAVI gained +25 VRS points and climbed to 1906 points overall, strengthening their position near the top of the rankings. Vitality, meanwhile, lost 23 points despite remaining the No.1 ranked team globally with 2080 points.

The result instantly exploded across social media after NAVI finally ended their losing streak against Vitality. NAVI player Mihai “iM” Ivan celebrated the emotional victory by posting:

Curse is lifted Finally won @TeamVitality 2:1, ggwp

Vitality captain Dan “apEX” Madesclaire admitted after the loss that the team looked exhausted following another difficult playoff defeat:

Well played @natusvincere, lost 2-1 today. Won’t lie I’m exhausted and the team as well. Now a few days off and we are getting ready for the major.

For NAVI, however, Atlanta may now become the tournament where the team finally proved they can once again defeat the strongest opponents in Counter-Strike.
