Astralis and Ninjas in Pyjamas will meet in the Group B lower-bracket semifinal at the Esports World Cup 2026. Both teams are fighting to keep their tournament runs alive, with the winner advancing to the lower-bracket final and the loser being eliminated. Astralis enter the series as the favorite after recovering from their opening defeat to Falcons with a convincing victory over MIBR. NiP also bounced back strongly by defeating BetBoom 2-0, making this a much closer matchup than the rankings might suggest.
Astralis look to build on their recovery
Astralis had a difficult start to the tournament. They defeated MIBR 13-6 in the opening round but were then swept 2-0 by Falcons in the upper-bracket semifinal.
The Danish side responded well in the lower bracket and remain the higher-ranked team heading into this match. Astralis are currently No. 11 in the world, compared to NiP at No. 28, while the community vote also favors Astralis by 63.2% to 36.8%.
Their lineup of phzy, HooXi, jabbi, Staehr and ryu has enough individual quality to control the series, but recent results have been inconsistent, with losses to Falcons and MOUZ mixed with victories over MIBR, paiN and HOTU.
NiP’s tournament has followed a similar path. They suffered a 13-5 loss to Legacy in their opening match before responding with a 2-0 victory over BetBoom to stay alive. Their recent form remains unstable, however, with defeats to Legacy, magic and paiN among their latest results.
Map pool gives NiP several opportunities
The map pool is one of the main reasons why this matchup could become difficult for Astralis. Based on the teams’ results over the past three months:

Nuke clearly stands out as NiP’s strongest statistical option, while Astralis should feel much more comfortable on Ancient. The veto will therefore be crucial, and Astralis will need to avoid allowing NiP to dictate the series around their strongest maps.
Key players
Staehr has been Astralis’ highlighted performer over the last three months, recording a 1.15 rating, 81.1 ADR and 1.30 multi-kill rating. His consistency could be particularly important in an elimination match.
For NiP, stavn has posted a 1.13 rating over the same period. He also leads Staehr in kills per round at 0.75 and KAST at 73.7%, giving NiP a player capable of making the difference against his former organization.

The most recent meeting between the teams came at the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, where Ninjas in Pyjamas defeated Astralis 13-10 on Nuke. That result adds another reason for Astralis to be cautious if Nuke remains available in the veto.
Astralis currently have 1631 VRS points at No. 20, while NiP sit on 1536 points at No. 25. According to the forecast, an Astralis victory could add around 40 points and move them toward No. 16, while NiP could gain approximately 43 points and climb toward No. 23 with a win.
A defeat would cost Astralis around 18 points, compared to approximately nine points for NiP.
Prediction
Astralis have the stronger overall ranking and slightly more convincing recent results, but this is far from a comfortable matchup. NiP have already shown they can respond under elimination pressure, and their advantage on maps such as Nuke and Inferno gives them a realistic path to the series. Still, Astralis appear to have the higher overall ceiling and enough individual quality to edge a close three-map battle.
