Udknud has claimed in a post on X that the official Valve Regional Standings dated September 7, 2026 include results from ESL Cup 6 matches played on September 8. He questioned both the results included in the ranking and the date used to calculate match decay.
ESL Cup 6 finished on September 8
The complaint concerns ESL Challenger League Season 52 Europe Cup 6, which HLTV lists as running from September 6 to 8. The tournament therefore continued beyond the date displayed on the monthly ranking.
In his update, Udknud wrote:
However they included an event (ESL Cup 6) that wasn’t completed by then, which means that the 28 matches from the event wrongly affects the ranking, some even played September 8th, so after the cut-off. This also means decay will be wrongly calculated.
He also claimed that September 8 was used as the reference date for match decay, affecting how older results were weighted. His claims about the matches included and the reference date have not been independently verified.
Valve released a ranking finally as also reported by others.

Alliance and magic are separated by two points
HLTV currently labels the September 7 list as an official Valve ranking. Alliance sit 22nd with 1,402 points, while magic are 23rd with 1,400.
According to Udknud, removing the disputed event would reverse that order:
magic would have ranked above Alliance had the event rightfully not been counted for this so-called September 7th ranking which really is a September 8th ranking.
The earlier dispute over HLTV live rankings
Before the official release, Udknud said he had heard rumors that HLTV was advising tournament organizers to use its live September 7 ranking. He warned that results from unfinished events could affect seeding and suggested using the Stake Ranked Episode 5 invite forecast instead.
The claim about advice from HLTV has not been confirmed. The comparison graphic he shared concerned the earlier live list and invite forecast, and he said it had been compiled with AI assistance.
Why the September update matters
The published Valve tournament rules require direct VRS invitations to use the latest official monthly ranking available on the invite date. Organizers must invite teams in rank order, starting from their announced position. Initial seeding must use the VRS version specified in the tournament announcement.
Dust2.us reported on September 8 that Stake Ranked Episode 5 and 1win Private Club Season 2 had planned to use the September update for invitations. HLTV now labels the Stake Ranked Episode 5 invite list as official and identifies it as the basis for invitations to the event.
