Thorin: Even Defeats Made Vitality More Dangerous After IEM Rio 2026

After Team Vitality lifted the IEM Rio 2026 trophy, analyst Duncan “Thorin” Shields released a passionate breakdown explaining why this event may have made the team even more dangerous than before. In his view, Vitality’s latest title was not just another championship run — it was proof that even when the roster struggles, it still finds ways to win.

Thorin says Vitality have reached another level

According to Thorin, the current Vitality lineup has moved beyond simply being the best team in the world. He believes they now carry an aura that affects opponents before the server even goes live.

Vitality is the best team ever and it’s certainly the best team now and no one can f*** with them.

He argued that teams are no longer facing Vitality with confidence, but with doubt. Instead of entering matches believing they can win, many opponents now seem mentally beaten before the series even starts — a sign, in Thorin’s eyes, of a truly historic era.

Rio proved that even weaker Vitality still win

Thorin stressed that IEM Rio 2026 was actually a more worrying sign for rivals than previous easy title runs. During the group stage, Vitality did not look flawless. They lost to Falcons, struggled heavily against G2, and looked vulnerable on several maps. Yet instead of collapsing, they lifted another trophy.

This tournament was more black pilling if you are the other teams than when they just win with ease.

His point was simple: if Vitality can still win during an off week, what chance do other teams have when they hit peak form?

The G2 series became the perfect example

One of the biggest sections of the video focused on the match against G2. That was the moment Vitality looked closest to defeat. They lost Mirage, found themselves on the brink of elimination, but still managed to recover and steal the series.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team where I was just so convinced that it doesn’t matter that the opponents are on map or series point.

According to Thorin, this is one of the rarest traits of a truly elite team — total belief even when the opponent is one round away from victory. He added that current Vitality do not break under pressure. If anything, they become stronger when the pressure rises.

Dust2 and Vitality’s map pool look absurdly strong

Thorin also spent time discussing Dust2, calling it almost perfect territory for Vitality. In his opinion, opponents are already at a disadvantage the moment the map begins.

This team has almost completed Counter-Strike.

He explained that Vitality possess nearly perfect role balance:

  • ZywOo controls the pace with the AWP
  • ropz punishes rotations and lurks perfectly
  • apEX creates space through utility and calling
  • flameZ provides explosive entry power
  • mezii stabilizes the structure

For Thorin, this mix of star power and discipline is what makes the roster so terrifying.

apEX, ropz and ZywOo are the pillars of this era

Thorin also praised the team’s leaders. He said ropz has become a monster in playoff matches, ZywOo remains a player who can win maps on his own, and apEX is enjoying one of the best stretches of his career. He was especially impressed by the captain’s level in the playoffs.

Your boomer ass 33-year-old Apex… that’s the fragging that your IGL does.

In Thorin’s view, when an in-game leader delivers that kind of firepower, the team gains a massive advantage over everyone else.

Community reaction under the video

The comments section was full of praise both for Thorin’s take and his classic presentation style.

  • “At this point we have to have the conversation of whose the greatest French leader in battle, apex or napoleon”
  • “Ropz must have a really hard working agent.”

Many fans also wrote that apEX is forcing people to completely rethink his Counter-Strike legacy, as very few imagined years ago that he would become the captain of a potentially all-time great team.

What comes next for Vitality?

Thorin believes that if Vitality continue winning through 2026 and add another Major title, the discussion about the greatest team in Counter-Strike history will become unavoidable.

This is how you do things that will never be matched ever in the history of Counter-Strike.

After IEM Rio 2026, the question is no longer whether Vitality are strong. The real question is whether any team truly exists that can stop them.
