Every CS2 player has their own weapon habits, but global statistics show most accurately what the real meta is built on. And the new data demonstrates that despite all balance changes and patches, the rivalry between the M4A1-S and M4A4 remains one of the clearest indicators of how playstyle and priorities differ across platforms.
New data: M4A1-S is significantly more popular on FACEIT
The most interesting part of the latest comparison is how differently players choose between the M4A1-S and M4A4 on the two largest competitive CS2 platforms.
On FACEIT, the M4A1-S is used in more than 82% of rounds, forming a clear pattern: players here value precision and shooting control above all. This weapon has long been the number one choice for disciplined duels, where each peek depends on stability.
In Premier, the picture changes — the number is solid but lower, around 75%. This reflects the overall style of ranked play inside CS2: most players tend to adopt more aggressive movement and more often choose the M4A4 as the option with better handling for chaotic situations.

M4A4 maintains strong positions in Premier
Although the M4A1-S leads the statistics, the M4A4 is noticeably stronger in Premier, where it is chosen in about a quarter of all rounds. This stands in sharp contrast to FACEIT, where the M4A4 barely reaches 18%.
This difference is easy to explain. Premier is an environment where quick reactions, active pressure, and area control matter. The M4A4 fits more naturally into a playstyle where rounds are won not by perfect isolated peeks, but by the ability to hold off constant pressure from the opponent.

Why the meta differs so much
The division between platforms shows that the CS2 meta is not universal — it depends on the level of play, the mindset of players, and the nature of matchups. FACEIT has historically gathered those who prioritize disciplined shooting and clean duels. Premier is more dynamic and aggressive in pace, and therefore the M4A4 integrates more naturally into that environment.
Weapon balance in CS2 has long created conditions where neither version of the M4 is strictly better. And that is exactly why platform statistics so clearly highlight how different segments of the scene play the game.

Meta split
The M4A1-S continues to dominate where discipline and accuracy remain the keys to victory. The M4A4 holds a stronger position in Premier, where pace and aggression often matter more than the perfect first bullet.
This natural meta split confirms that CS2 lives through different playstyles, and weapon choice is not just an individual decision — it is part of a broader platform identity and culture.
