Cache still didn’t make it into CS2

Cache once again failed to appear in the latest update for Counter-Strike 2, despite another major map rotation and the return of Anubis. The map has now been absent since the launch of CS2 in 2023, meaning players have been waiting for its comeback for well over a year.

Cache was last officially part of the Active Duty map pool in 29 March 2019, when it was removed and replaced by Vertigo. While it continued to exist in various matchmaking and community formats throughout CS:GO’s later years, it has not returned to any official pool since the transition to CS2.

According to Gabe Follower, Cache is not expected to enter the active map pool until the next official map rotation or later toward the end of the year, effectively ruling out any short-term return following the current patch.

Despite its continued absence, developers have confirmed that Cache is actively being worked on. Valve is reportedly rebuilding the map from the ground up, rather than porting the existing version, a decision believed to be linked to optimization concerns and higher technical standards for CS2.

Additional reports suggest that Valve only recently began involving external outsourcing studios to assist with environment art, textures, and models, indicating that development is still ongoing rather than nearing completion.

As other maps are rotated, updated, and reintroduced, Cache remains one of the most requested yet unavailable maps in the game. Even with development confirmed, the wait continues — reinforcing just how long the community has been expecting its return.
