A new Counter-Strike 2 balance debate has erupted after professional player and analyst Martin “STYKO” Styk claimed that Five-SeveN is currently the best value gun in CS2. His post quickly went viral on X (Twitter), splitting the community into two camps — those demanding a nerf, and those who believe the pistol is perfectly balanced.
STYKO: Five-SeveN Is Too Strong for $500
In his original post, STYKO directly called Five-SeveN the best value purchase in the game and questioned how Valve should tone it down.
Five-SeveN is currently the best value gun in CS2 for $500. How do we nerf it? Increase the price? Nerf the one-shot potential at close range?
He later followed up with a second post listing the weapon’s strengths:
- one-shot potential even against armored opponents
- 32 base damage with 91% armor penetration
- strong running accuracy
- 20 bullets in the magazine
- lowest recoil of all CT pistols
- high fire rate
- $300 kill reward
- fast movement speed
According to STYKO, the real question is not whether it needs a nerf, but what kind of nerf it should receive.
Main Concern: CT Force Buys
The former pro player also emphasized that the issue becomes especially noticeable at the professional level. Because of its low price, Five-SeveN allows CT teams to buy extra utility, armor, and create dangerous half-buy or force-buy rounds. In his view, this gives the defending side too much economic flexibility in CS2’s MR12 format.
Community Pushes Back
Many players in the replies defended the Five-SeveN. Some argued that the pistol is only strong at close range and still requires smart positioning.
- Nothing to fix here. If you lose to a Five-SeveN at close range with a Galil, that’s on you.
- The gun is perfect. If Five-SeveN is too strong, then buff CZ75 or P250 instead.
- Why do we have to nerf everything in this game? Pistols already struggle against AKs, Galils, and AWPs.
Others supported STYKO, saying it feels wrong for a fully bought rifle to lose against a $500 pistol in close-range fights.
Suggested Nerfs from the Community
Some of the most common ideas included:
- increasing the price to $600–700
- reducing the magazine from 20 to 12–15 bullets
- stronger damage falloff at medium range
- worse movement accuracy
- removing close-range one-shot headshot potential through armor
Valve has not commented on the discussion so far.
Why It Matters Now
Valve has recently pushed several major CS2 updates, including AnimGraph 2, networking improvements, FPS optimization, and other balance changes. Because of that, many players believe pistol balance could be the next target. Five-SeveN was considered a niche weapon for years, but in CS2 more players now see it as the best anti-eco and force-buy option for CT sides.

Will Valve Nerf It?
For now, this is only a community debate. But Valve often reacts to large-scale balance discussions. If Five-SeveN continues rising in popularity both in matchmaking and pro play, changes could arrive in a future update.
