Old Cache vs New Cache: All the Changes

The return of de_cache to CS2 instantly became one of the biggest topics in the community. After Counter-Strike posted — “Welcome back”. Players rushed en masse to test the updated map — and within the very first hours they found not only pleasant nostalgic details, but also old wallbangs, new tactical possibilities, easter eggs, and several things that may very well require fixes.

Valve have officially brought Cache back to CS2

The main news hook here is simple: Cache has returned. After a long wait, the map is once again available in the new version of the game, and the community’s first reaction shows that this is not just another technical return of a classic, but a full-fledged event for the entire scene.

And importantly, Cache did not instantly become “dead nostalgia.” On the contrary, it immediately came alive on social media: players, analysts, content creators, and ordinary fans started looking for new setups, testing old tricks, and checking what exactly made its way into CS2 from older versions of the map.

The old 2017 bodyy wallbang still works

One of the loudest discoveries was an old wallbang known since 2017. HEROIC pointed out that the very same wallbang associated with bodyy turned out to be possible on the new version of Cache as well.

That immediately triggered a wave of nostalgia, but along with it questions about balance. If old wallbangs remained in the map without major changes, that can be either a pleasant “historical hello” or a real gameplay issue if certain positions once again become too vulnerable.

A powerful B-site combination has already been found

The community also drew attention to a strong B-site combination that has already started spreading as a useful setup for play. This once again underlines that Cache is returning to a normal competitive rhythm very quickly: players are not just admiring the remake, they are immediately looking for the practical value of every corner.

Such discoveries are especially important at the start of a map’s life in CS2, because this is exactly when the new “meta” begins to form. If the combination is truly stable and easy to execute, it can absolutely become part of the standard pool of useful solutions for B takes or site control.

Players are already asking for a B-site smoke to be fixed

Alongside useful discoveries, the first complaints about the map have also appeared. One player publicly asked Counter-Strike to pay attention to a problematic B-site smoke that looks suspicious or does not work quite the way it is expected to.

These kinds of details are always very important in the first days after a map’s release. If a smoke gives unfair vision, incorrectly blocks a position, or creates abnormal gaps, it quickly moves from the category of “minor inconvenience” into the category of “this needs to be fixed with a patch.”

On A, you can solo get onto Shroud without opening squeaky

Another interesting discovery concerns A-site. Users noticed that it is now possible to get onto Shroud by yourself without even opening the squeaky door, which immediately raised the classic question: is this a W or an L for the map?

On the one hand, things like this add variety to Cache and reward map knowledge. On the other, if such a boost is too easy to perform and gives too strong an advantage, it may become a controversial element that either changes the standard timings on A or is eventually fixed.

On the new Cache, you can buy an AWP in the pistol round

One of the strangest and potentially most serious moments was a bug that allows players to get an AWP in the pistol round on the new Cache. If this trick really works consistently, then this is no longer just a fun social-media clip, but a completely broken economy mechanic.

Things like this attract the attention of the whole community very quickly because they hit the core logic of matches. The pistol round in Counter-Strike is the foundation of early-round structure, and any way to bring an AWP into it automatically makes the issue critical if it can be reproduced not as a one-off, but systematically.

A strange easter egg detail was noticed on the map

Users also found an interesting small detail on Cache that has already been labeled an easter egg. It concerns a part where “1” and “2” appear closed, while “3” seems to still be in progress, which has led the community to argue: is this just trolling, a hint, or a deliberate mystery from the map’s creators?

These little elements often make the return of iconic maps feel more alive and warmer. Even if this detail has no major gameplay significance, it is already doing its job: triggering discussion, theories, and tying the community even more strongly to the updated version of Cache.

A memorial to the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster was added to Cache

Another detail that the community received very warmly is the memorial plaque on the new Cache. It reads:

TO HEROES PROFESSIONALS TO THOSE WHO PROTECTED THE WORLD FROM NUCLEAR DISASTER. IN HONOUR OF THE 20-TH ANNIVERSARY OF SHELTER OBJECT CONSTRUCTION. 30.11.2006.

This detail fits the atmosphere of Cache extremely well: the map is already built around an industrial, post-Soviet, and nuclear vibe, and this memorial adds not only style, but also real historical meaning.

The community wants Cache to get graffiti in honor of xQc’s legendary fail

After Cache returned, part of the player base and content creators once again remembered one of the most famous meme moments connected to this map — the iconic xQc highlight where he first set himself on fire with a Molotov, then flashed himself, and then also accidentally killed a teammate. That episode has long since become a cult fail in Cache history, so jokes and calls to Valve have already started appearing in the community, saying that it would be perfect if the updated map got a separate graffiti or some other visual reference to that moment.

So this is not about an already added graffiti, but specifically about a community wish for such a reference to appear in the future. The idea spread quickly precisely because that fail has long gone beyond being just a funny clip and has become part of Cache’s own meme history. So if Valve ever do decide to reference that moment on the map, the community will absolutely see it as very well-judged fan service.

Cache’s return has been loud — and this is only the beginning

The return of de_cache to CS2 can already be considered a success at least in terms of attention. The map did not just come back into the game — it immediately generated a wave of discoveries: old wallbangs, new boosts, strong combinations, potential bugs, easter eggs, and visual details that the community is happily breaking down point by point.

And it looks like this is only the beginning. In the coming days, players will definitely find even more tactical tricks, questionable mechanics, and hidden details. And that means Cache has returned exactly the way it should have: loudly, chaotically, interestingly — and with the feeling that this map will once again become one of the community’s favorites.
