Natus Vincere fell to Vitality in the quarter-finals of PGL Masters Bucharest 2026. However, the team still earned its first playoff berth since winning IEM Atlanta. Along the way, NAVI also beat Spirit and FURIA.

So why does this run matter? NAVI had a hard start to the season, and many fans wondered what would change. Now coach Andrey “B1ad3” Gorodenskiy has given his own answer in an interview with HLTV. His explanation is surprisingly simple.

How NAVI Built Momentum Before Bucharest

NAVI arrived in Romania after a strong showing at EPL. There, the team won 2-0 against 9z and G2. Moreover, NAVI took one map from Vitality and one from Falcons. As a result, B1ad3 felt the squad had already become a different team.

However, the road was not smooth. The loss to PARIVISION hurt, because B1ad3 believes NAVI knew how to win that series. The team hesitated and played nervously, so that result felt like a step back. Even so, NAVI carried the same belief into Bucharest.

Cache Success Against Vitality

Against Vitality, NAVI picked Cache. The team had prepared the map in depth and had also played it the day before. In addition, NAVI felt confident on the CT side after the match against Spirit, where the team was around 8-4 or 9-3 on that half.

B1ad3 had also studied how Vitality plays the map. Therefore, NAVI believed a strong CT-side approach could punish their T-side style.

I checked how they played Cache before, and they’re playing a little bit FACEIT style on T side. There’s not a lot of structure. People just go around trying to kill, finding entries, and if you don’t stop them in terms of firepower, you can lose a lot of duels.

NAVI also planned to start on the T side, which is the stronger side on this map. For this reason, the team had removed Cache in the previous meeting. If Vitality picked it and NAVI started on CT, the opponent could feel confident and build a clear game plan.

Why Mirage and Dust2 Went Differently

The next two maps went the other way. NAVI had chances on both Mirage and Dust2. Meanwhile, Vitality gained confidence and an economy boost, and the team became harder to stop.

As soon as you give Vitality this confidence boost or economy boost, they start cooking rounds with more random effect, where people can just guess and kill and just YOLO.

On Mirage, B1ad3 pointed to the CT side as the main problem. According to him, NAVI did not fight together as it had against Spirit. In particular, the team lost too many fights at the end of rounds. Even winnable situations, such as five versus three or four versus two, slipped away.

The T side brought similar issues. NAVI had equal rounds, such as 3 to 2 and 2 to 2, but it struggled to convert them. Sometimes the team froze on A instead of taking space. Looking ahead, B1ad3 knows that NAVI must find its flow and sharpen its reactions.

B1ad3 on Confidence, Process and Execution

NAVI did not rebuild its game during this period. Instead, the team kept working on the same ideas and focused on better execution. B1ad3 linked the improvement to mindset and confidence.

We didn’t change anything, we were constantly working on the same stuff. It was just the executing of protocols and ideas was not that sharp, because this can come with mindset, this can come with your confidence, right?

In addition, the coach highlighted the importance of winning matches. Long losing stretches create doubt, while wins help players stay sharp. At EPL, everyone fought for those wins, and that helped the team. B1ad3 also praised the map vetoes in Bucharest, which surprised opponents. Moreover, he named G2, FURIA, Spirit and Vitality as very tough opposition.

What This Means for NAVI

Although the quarter-final loss hurts, the tournament showed real progress. NAVI reached the top eight, beat Spirit and FURIA, and returned to the playoffs for the first time since IEM Atlanta. B1ad3 also believes the team could have beaten BETBOOM and PARIVISION. Still, he sees those losses as useful lessons about where NAVI must improve.

As a result, the team leaves Romania with both confidence and a clear work plan. The main goals are better CT-side synergy against aggressive teams and sharper play in reaction mode.
